DutchGalgoLobby is a Dutch foundation which is actively approaching Dutch and European political parties and members of parliament to clarify the mistreatment of the Spanish Galgo and the associated hunting and gambling issues. Ed van Dort explains their work.

‘In the Netherlands we found support from various political parties such as the Dutch Animal Party (Partij voor de Dieren) which has two seats in Dutch Parliament and the PVV (Party for Freedom) which has 24 seats in parliament. Furthermore we are in close contact with members of European Parliament and several Animal protection organizations.

We differ from most other international Galgo foundations in a way that we are not focusing on adoption, transport or local Spanish support. On project basis, however, we support foundations that have their focus on these activities because we believe that, as long as we are not able to solve the Galgo problems in Spain, every rescued dog is one saved.

We strongly believe that close co-operation between Galgo foundations in European countries that also have their focus on the political approach can boost effectiveness. The manifestation in Strasbourg on June 9th proved that co-operation is effective.
