I just read the update from Fermin… Poor Fermin! I feel sorry for him. He seems like such a decent man and he cares for the animals, it’s obvious. Those people from the other organizations are acting like children (and some might say like vultures…). I find it incredible with all the work to be done that all this ridiculous squabbling still goes on! Instead of all working together to solve this crisis, they seem to all be going against one another. The galgo situaiton will NEVER get resolved with this kind of stupid attitude. Those people need to grow up!
Completely agree with Danielle – poor dogs suffer while people who are supposed to care bicker like children. Poor Fermin, who has risen above it and continues to do what matters – we support you, Fermin, in all that you do for the animals – dont ever let the human animals get you down.
keep going fermin the gals and pods need you
After all I know about EGS I am not surprised at all to hear what happened to Fermin there.
I can not imagine, that – God forbid – when Fermin would have such an accident and would die, that on the next day Scooby would go to the vultures in this manner.
I would have wished very much that Scooby can take over the EGS facility as then I would have been sure that there would have been a professionally managed sanctuary, by a decent TEAM of rescuers.
Pity it has not happened.
Maybe when the vultures clear off, it will still be possible???
Or greed wins as usually…
I know we’re not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but I’ve seen some pretty awful things about Pat Osbourne on the Net. She didn’t seem to care about dogs and seem quite rough with them leaving dogs in the blazing sun, not feeding them properly, kicking them, not treating injured and suffering dogs, etc. Perhaps, the galgos are better off without her??? Hopefully, this will get sorted out and her remaining galgos will go into loving hands.
This, in particular, is quite revealing:

It does date back to 2002 and 2004, but can a woman change so much if she’s this ruthless and heartless to begin with???
Since Pat died I’ve seen posts on Facebook by people who volunteered at EGS as recently as 2011 & 2012 and they say they saw none of the behaviour described as taking place nearly a decade ago, so perhaps the way EGS was run did improve. Academic surely when the woman is dead.
The situation with Fermin and Scooby is ridiculous, what does EGS plan to do with the dogs if they don’t go to Scooby. Insulting to Fermin as well when his integrity is called into doubt by this woman at EGS.
Galgos del Sol contacted EGS to offer assistance if it was required with the galgos over and above those that Scooby were reported to be taking. They were asked to help and yesterday 7 galgos were collected and are now with GdS, with more to follow once additional kennelling is organised. Not sure what associations went in and cherry-picked dogs but it wasn’t GdS. This first 7 are the old, the ill, and the hard to rehome. It includes four with leish, one very traumatised galga, one galgo/cross and very dominant galgo. GdS is dealing with different people at EGS though, not the woman Fermin mentions.
No idea where the figure of 150 has come from in the first place… we were pushed to see 80 and most were marked with ribbon to say already reserved for EGS partners abroad. They need time to sort those out and then see after who is left. I think its such a shame when people go on about cherry picking like this. Should the pretty ones be left behind then? Can’t we just be grateful that some people have come and helped? I dont know what went on with Scooby but there will always be two sides to every story but people will pick the side they want to believe normally to suit them. Personally I am not lsitening to either and just want to help the dogs inside. Poor Sebastian. Burying his mother and just a few hours before people in his face giving him crap…. in disbelief i just couldnt wait to get out of there…… we have huge repesct for Scooby whom we have worked with before.
If you want to know what went on with Scooby, just go on Scooby’s site, Fermin talks about it in his blog post. That way, you can get his side of the story. The way he was treated seems very unfair. And I don’t think it’s a question of “leaving the pretty ones behind”, but taking in priority the ones that need the most help and are not likely to get it if they stay there, like the sick and injured ones. Or taking a mix of both. I think Suzie was aiming her comment at assocs who just take the pretty ones and the ones that they know won’t cost too much to care for and which they know they can rehome easily, leaving the other assocs to pick up what’s left and incur the most cost.
Happy to hear that GdS took in some of the galgos. I have been following GdS on the internet for a while and I think it is a good rescue group.
Actually GdS is the only rescue I know of, that openly declares the leishmaniosis status of the dogs on the adoption page.
I wish you, your galgos and all the newcomers all the best and good adoptive families!
I know what Suzie mean’t, she is our right hand lady. I just meant they all need to go and it doesn’t matter who takes them but I understand what you mean also 🙂 The main thing is that they must all get out and i’m sure they will 🙂 Reallt the dogs looked fine and there was alot of people helping when we were there.

Hi Tunde, there are many other associations which
also state if the dog has leishmaniasis – I have been involved in bringing some
of them out of Spain and it is always mentioned on the pieces about the dogs on
the association websites. You need to look in other languages, as well as
English. Beryl
I speak French and all the French associations whose Website I’ve looked at (and there are many) declare whether or not a dog has one or more of the Mediterranean diseases.
i just want the galgos safe i think every association who rescues these beutiful dogs are un sung heros every association needs to stick together for the sake of these loving angels
I spoke to fermin on his way back from EGS and i understand his reaction.
the people who rejected him did it because Pat had told them that fermin is a bad person, a galguero, that he sells dogs to laboratorys and all such bulls…! the same about me. this happend because fermin, our organisation and many more participated in the reports against EGS 8 years ago and i can assure that ALL DID TKE PLACE because i have seen the dogs coming from there, all bitten, all infected wounds, all skinny and frightend and all full of ticks and fleas. and i was there, she did not let me in but i saw enough from outside.
who sais it did not take place is blind or participated in this horrible story.
now its over, the dogs will find nice homes and a far tooo long nightmare comes to an end.
