I visited Prodeanse shelter when I was in Seville last year. The team work to help dogs in a very bad area for abandonment and cruelty. This is their story of Nieves.
SEVILLA / / Nieves… Rescued from the Cerro de Dos Hermanas
Nieves gave birth to her 9 puppies on the morning of the 27 June.
She was treated with amoxicillin/clavulamico (antibiotic), meloxican (anti-inflammatory) and a vitamin complex since she was rescued. On July 1 she went to the vet as an emergency.
The problem was mastitis with necrosis of the penultimate and antepenultimas breasts of the left mammary chain. She had problems breathing, dehydration of level 2 and a temperature of 39.8 ° C. Three days earlier that had given birth to her 9 cubs.
At the vet clinic she devoured a tin of Recovery Plus with great appetite. A fluid intake was started with Ringer lactate to hydrate her. Likewise, she was also on intravenous vitamins. She was given Cabergoline (to suppress lactation) and endotoxemia (a strong antibiotic). Lactadiet wass prescribed for puppies.

This is the total so far, it will be more for all the cans of milk for puppies.
In summary: The State of health of Nieves is very serious. According to the veterinarian has passed a pregnancy of high malnutrition. For every day that was something to eat, perhaps passed three without tasting snack. 9 Pirañitas that were killing the food reserve that the poor dog might have had inside.
We must not forget also, that she was also responsible for a puppy of 5 months, which it sought also food. Remember that when we went for her, a few days later, he had lost a lot of weight.
Add to all this, that after being used in her 4/5 years of life, once after another to give birth, and not cease her production of breast milk, she had cystitis which is what has produced the mastitis.
To avoid ending up, puppies, born and instinctively go to suckle from their mother, have taken milk intoxicated and so their small bodies are struggling to survive.
We need help to cope with these costs… But more important than the money, it is to find a House of refuge for Nieves, when out of the vet, if she gets well enough to come out…
