Forthcoming meeting in Madrid. SOS Galgos says
‘It is with the slogan ‘GALGOS, SPAIN BEFORE THE WORLD’ that we will go to the PARLIAMENTARY FORUM OF CONGRESS in Madrid on Wednesday, 12th March (4pm – 6pm) where the current situation of greyhounds in Spain will be discussed in depth. Several videos including Spca International’s video included in the global signature petition to end cruelty to Spanish greyhounds, SOS Galgos’ video of the demonstration before the European Parliament in Strasbourg and the much acclaimed documentary film ‘February, the Fear of the Greyhounds’ will be screened and a series of solutions and strategies to bring an end to this situation will be addressed.
Key persons attending: Chesús Yuste, MP and member of the A.P.D.D.A. (Parliamentary Association in Defence of Animals), lawyer Sergio Garcia-Valle, Jérôme Guillot (President of C.R.E.L.), Stephanie Scott and Meredith Ayan (SPCA International Global Animal Rescue), Irene Blánquez of Waggingtale Films, Veterinarian Albert Sordé and Anna Clements (Director of SOS Galgos), Cristina García (Galgos sin Fronteras), José Antonio Contera from the Police force, Anna Mulà and Leonardo Anselmi of the Franz Weber Foundation.’
I would add that it’s time they included podencos with galgos – they suffer just as much but don’t get the high publicity! Please send the following email to ask that the plight of the podencos is included in the discussions.

I write to strongly request that at the meeting on 12th March in Madrid, you demand the same help for the podencos as you are discussing for the galgos. Podencos suffer just as much as the galgos, and in far greater numbers. Don’t overlook the fact that Podencos are the hunting dogs of the Canary and Balearic Islands where galgos are not used. 85,000 podencos on the Canary Islands for example – they all need a voice.
I look forward to reading a report on the meeting that the plight of the podencos has been included alongside that of the galgos.
