11 GREYHOUNDS FOUND DEAD IN A TRUCK at CHERBOURG, FRANCE

Bloody Irish Greyhound Board!! (Bing translation)

Cherbourg, 27/10/2014. Alerted by the Irish Ferries shipping company, 11 Greyhounds were found dead by the Gendarmes Maritime of Cherbourg SPPP (maritime and port surveillance platoon) on board the vessel Oscar Wilde, 27th October 2014 around 2 pm. Crammed 2 in cages, in a truck from Rosslare (Ireland), 11 racing Greyhounds died suffocated during the 17 h crossing.

Veterinary services said death was by asphyxiation. No autopsy was performed.

Sold by a breeder Irish, these 11 Greyhounds, some on the prestigious list, were to arrive in Spain, intended to supply the lucrative circuit of the reproduction of the Galgos.
11 unfortunates who have paid with their lives the greed of men.

Regularly Irish greyhounds arrive on the Spanish territory, paid about €200 by Spanish breeders unscrupulous, willing to improve the breed of their Galgos.. A few weeks ago no less than 150 of these dogs left Ireland for Spain.

Known and… legal traffic!

What I don’t understand is that they don’t even consider their “investment”. Those dogs were bought, so 11 dogs must have cost quite a bit of money. I know those people don’t have a soul and don’t care about the dogs, but what about their money??? You have to be pretty damn stupid to cram 2 big dogs per cage, stuff them in a van and not check on them through a 17-hour crossing!!! Goes to show that people involved in dog racing are not the brightest ones around…

This is totally beyond belief and we must continue to do everything in our power to stop this needless suffering and the taking of innocent souls Only thing I can suggest is to stuff these breeders into cramped cages minus food, water and enough air to breathe and transport them to the Artic wastes and leave them there!!!!

This is disgusting, no doubt they will have some crap excuse for what happened. They shouldn’t be transporting these dogs out to Spain. Then they are trying to get them exported out to the Far East to a life of torture and hell. Make no mistake these people couldn’t care less about the dogs. I buy the ‘Oldie’ magazine for my Mum and Dad and there was an article in there entitled “The rebirth of greyhound racing” written by some twit who could only waffle on about Brad Pitt and how cool it was to own a greyhound. She was also drivelling on about greyhound racing in the Far East, like it is something to celebrate. In Macau there is no rehoming programme, in China there are no animal welfare laws. They know what hell these dogs are being sent to but THEY DON’T CARE. I wrote a stinking email to the Oldie magazine saying that they were totally irresponsible to use their magazine as a platform to promote greyhound racing, no response as yet and I bet they don’t get back to me either. Beryl, I will send the article on to you to have a look at. I think I should send the article to some of the Greyhound welfare associations and rescues so that they can respond too.

Investigation into deaths of greyhounds on ferry
    RTE News, 29th October 2014
The Department of Agriculture has said it is investigating an incident in which 11 greyhounds were discovered dead in a van on board the Irish Ferries Oscar Wilde vessel just before it docked in France on Monday afternoon.
The greyhounds were being transported in cages in the van and it is believed they suffocated during the 14-hour journey from Rosslare to Cherbourg.
An Irish Ferries spokesperson said they were unaware the dogs were being transported in the vehicle.
The driver was questioned by French police but has since been released.
As a precaution, nine other pet owners travelling with their animals were held on board the vessel for a short time after it docked until the cause of the greyhounds’ deaths was established.
In a short statement the Department of Agriculture described the incident as “very serious” and said it is continuing to liaise with French authorities.
Meanwhile, Bord na gCon, which regulates greyhound racing in Ireland, said it was horrified at the deaths of the 11 greyhounds.
The board said it would provide all possible assistance to investigations into the incident by authorities in France and by the Department of Agriculture here to determine whether there has been breach of animal welfare regulations surrounding the transport of animals.
