The pressure on Spanish refuges and perreras does not lessen – daily galgos and podencos dumped…here’s the latest one at Pepis Refuge on 30th Novewmber, now named Gabriell. Jane tells the story.
Once again another beautiful black galga dumped today. (30/11/2014) I hate the word dumped, but what other words can you use? I would say she is no more than 1 year old, she has a swollen front leg and finds it hard to stand on it, so vets tomorrow. Also we noticed blood running down her neck and a small cut where the chip would have been. No surprise there then. She too is quite thin, but we have bathed her neck, put a nice thick coat on her, given her some food and bedded her down for the night.
ALAN writes. Normally Jane would write the post, but this time I felt compelled to write this one, I am bloody fuming, Gabriell has so much love in her. We are told by our vets she is in a lot of pain and must be kept from walking on her leg. We carried her into the vet`s, but had no idea as to the extent of her pain. She is one hell of a brave dog.
She has a fever, and is now on strong medication. As if cutting the chip out of her neck was not bad enough, it got even more distressing to hear what came next. The first fracture is 3 months old. The galguero bound it up, too tight so it has not healed correctly. Then used her again for hunting. This time a clean break, so they dumped her!
She can’t stop wagging her tail when she see`s us, even in that much pain.
She will forgive us humans, she deserves a chance to get better even if the cost is high. I wanted to teach dogs, but it seems they are the teachers, and I am the pupil. This is one special dog, thank you young lady for giving me even more strength to carry on.
Jane Brian 1 December 23:39 I forgot to say, when we came back from the vets another galga, was tied to our gate.
(Jane and Alan have only just managed to clear their 3,000 euro vet bill, and now it starts to mount up again. You can help here for Gabriell’s treatment.)
