I’ve just been introduced to a facebook page set up for people to discuss using a product on their dogs called Bravecto. Apparently it has very serious side effects and several of the people report their dogs becoming very ill and even dying. Below is one report, posted on 17/6/2016.
‘On the 17th of March 2016 I gave my dog Brevacto chew.3 days later I found her scratching her stomach which had become raw.
The rash spread to her thighs under her front legs and all over her head with a lot of hair loss.
She had a very high fever and was burning to the touch.
A foul smelling mucus continuously oozed for her sores and when she shook her head blood was discharged from the sores. She must have lost a lot of blood over the couple of weeks.
During all of this she drank excessive amounts of water and ate very little. Vets gave her injections to help with her appetite, she was also treated with antibiotics, steroids and washes. At this stage she was constantly with the vets.
On the 9th of April 2016 Flossie lost her brave battle.
Of course I have no proof but the chew was the only thing different in her life.
Flossie was a healthy 10 year old Springer Spaniel x Cavalier King Charles.
In her last 2 days she became very weak and unresponsive and staggered as if she was drunk.
I will never forgive myself for not doing my research before giving her the chew, causing her such needless pain and suffering.
Unfortunately I found this wonderful site (Does Bravecto Kill Dogs?) too late. Her Vet did report it to M.S.D. Ireland, it was also reported to E.M.A., she is listed on the E.M.A. report no:873 as possible.
Have any of you readers used this product and, if so, what problems have you experienced? The manufacturers of the product are threatening legal action against the founders of the fb page and need to collect as much information as possible to fight their case.

One response to “Bravecto flea & tick treatment chew- is it dangerous?”
What?!!! You give a dog a chew to kill fleas? No way, this sounds seriously dodgy. I use front line externally on the back of the neck. Never heard of giving a dog a chew to kill fleas.
I am very sorry for the loss of this lady’s dog. The poor dog obviously suffered.
