Last Chance Animal Rescue, Malaga – a galga’s story

Last Chance animal resce Gracie 400 11 2016From Anne Marie Payne. ‘To those of you that don’t know Grace and her story, She is a 10yr old galga who after wandering around in the campo for 3 months was finally caught by Lydia Jay who took her to the hospital for assessment. She was extremely dehydrated, malnourished, covered in tics and fleas. and full of worms. Last Chance Animal Rescue stepped in at this point, took her under their wing and put her in foster with me. Once her blood tests were done which revealed she had Leishmaniosis, and also we were not happy with her breathing we took her down to Curro who did a complete examination, Her teeth were in an awful state and, she had a large ulcer on her gum. But the biggest shock after doing x-rays was that she had lung cancer which had spread to other parts of her body. I couldn’t hold it back and cried.

To be finally rescued by a decent organisation after living such a terrible life and, then told that she was dying was just too much to bear. When it was quiet in the house I went over to Grace to sit with her. I looked into her eyes and, counted the scars on her face, she has 8 altogether, and I wondered ‘just how much pain have you been through in your life, Grace, to get these scars, how many times have you been hungry and felt fear, how many times have you felt cold in the night, and been without water on the hottest of days. And why did you end up in the pound like so many other galgos throughout Spain?’

Grace doesn’t have much time, but Last Chance are providing her with the best holistic treatment and high quality food available. This is very expensive, but she deserves the very best after what she’s been through
The charity is under tremendous pressure at the moment with vets fees amounting to thousands, and because there are not enough fosters many dogs are having to be cared for in paid residence. Please take a moment and think about Grace and all the other dogs Last Chance has to care for. Hold the thought and ask yourself if you can help by donating even just a little, because believe me every euro or pound really makes a difference. You can be that difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Grace, And please if you cannot help in any other way then please share her story.

Last Chance is a registered charity and receives no government or local funding, It relies on donations from the general public. Please help if you can

RIP beautiful Grace. So unfair, ten years of a terrible life, then to be rescued, to be safe and then have that snatched away. Thank you to Last Chance but I am so sorry that she didn’t make it. I will be making a donation and I am thinking of lovely Grace and all the other pure souls who don’t make it. I hate these pathetic excuses for human beings but who abuse these gentle dogs.
