I recently published about galgo pup PJ who was rescued together with Podenca Carley who was mothering him. Both are safe with Podenco Friends. PJ is still struggling with health problems, here’s the latest news from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.

PJ taking some R&R in the sunshine this morning .. His blood tests came back from the bile acid tests and it confirmed he is producing an elevated level which indicates a liver shunt.

However the following day we checked his ammonia level and that was normal so we tried a second ultrasound and again couldn’t get a clear image that there is shunt in the liver. The tests are conflicting and cannot give us a straight answer but it is all too apparent to see he is not a well pup and his appetite has dropped off.

We need a definitive answer and so he is booked in for a scan using contrasts . We hoped to avoid having to use a sedative as this procedure comes with risk, even more so on such a young pup. However we have no choice and hopefully it will gives us the answers we need for PJ.
