On October 2nd, we held a very important meeting in Madrid with SEPRONA (National Service of the Environment) and the Central Operational Unit for the Environment (UCOMA) of the Civil Guard. I was accompanied by Eva Ramos, legal advisor for PACMA, and our objective was clear: to demand more resources, more inspections, and a greater commitment to protecting hunting dogs.
We met with Major General Carlos Sarrión, head of SEPRONA, and several representatives from UCOMA to address a reality we can no longer ignore: the neglected situation faced by thousands of dogs used for hunting in Spain.
Following their exclusion from the Animal Protection Law, these animals have been left beyond the minimum legal protection, and cases of abuse are multiplying.
We have requested increased inspections of hunting packs and more resources to ensure effective action. SEPRONA (National Agency for the Protection of Animals) informed us that they receive around 1,200 reports of animal abuse each year and that, due to the workload, it is essential to strengthen public collaboration.
At PACMA, we insist that the situation requires urgent and decisive measures.
I will continue working, along with the entire PACMA team, to ensure that animals exploited for hunting receive the protection they deserve. We will not stop urging institutions and mobilizing society to end this injustice.
