‘I’m asking for help for a gaglgo rescued 1 year ago and who hasn’t found adoption yet. He is about three / four years old, in good health and, like the others, has a hunter’s instinct. He is in Malaga and he can travel. He is very good with people and children. His name is Percy.

  • Galga Amy with Ann’s Canine Care in – leaving Malaga for her forever home

    Ann MP Amy 400 5 2020
Amy’s story, from Ann Marie Payne.

‘This goodbye is really going to hurt. Remember Amy who was living in atrocious conditions during the lockdown. Sue JAy, through a friend, and myself, and with veterinary support managed to get her out of danger and down to Mijas where she was examined and vaccinated by Costapet.

Amy came into my life as an unknown quantity but, immediately found her place in my heart. She is such a beautiful character, kind, so loving and also funny. When we were at Costapet she stole a treat whilst I was paying for her treatment, and brought it home with her. She settled in so easily with Rosely and the very timid little Pearl. But every time I put clean washing on the table Amy decided it was her place to sleep! I put a box on the table to stop her doing this and she decided that was better to sleep in the box than on top of the washing as she could curl up better in it.

    Black galgo Gonzo 400 5 2020
    From Black Galgo groupl

    GONZO FOR ADOPTION!

Gonzo is three and a half years old, his life has not been easy, for his whole life he has lived with a muzzle, he is another of so many discards this season.

He’s already with us, we removed the muzzle, he didn’t need it, when he came to us he didn’t stop shaking, yet he relaxed, started trusting and his fears disappeared in just a few days.

Now he’s playful and sociable with his fellow residence, a very innocent little boy and good, no evil.

  • Galga Faith – a happy ending for an abandoned galga

    Ann Marie Payne Heidi 400 4 2020
Here’s a lovely rehoming story from Ann Marie Payne of Ann’s Canine Care.

‘My gorgeous Faith, my New Year Baby. – First one through the door on New Years Day

Abandoned and left fending for herself on the streets by another sub human galguero.

Last week she left me and went into TRACES to start her journey to her lovely new mum Sam Phipps who lives in the UK
But what makes this adoption so special is the fact that Sam not only lives in the UK but, also lives in the same street as Lisa Pratt who adopted my adorable Patty, who was living in atrocious conditions and was also being threatened by her sub human galguero.

  • Cycle of Love

    Bev PJ 400
Beautiful words taken from a post on Bev Farmer’s page on Podenco Friends. So true.

“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive, our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.”

From Bev. ‘This photo of PJ came up on my FB memories.. He was so special wise beyond his age. I had no intention of taking on a pup, it was the wrong time in my life. I knew I had become very attached to him and he had declared that I was his mum. PJ’s first night in the house, it was like he had been here for ever. He jumped up on the sofa and curled beside me. All the dogs accepted him .. Then it was time for bed. I popped him on top of it and as we settled down, he snook up between Tilly and me under the duvet and never moved the whole night.

  • The work of Galgos del Sol in Murcia

One of the very first stories I ran when I started Galgo News back in 2008 was about Ruso, a galgo left in a Spanish shelter where a English volunteer, Tina Solera, helped out. She contacted me and together we started on a journey which culminated in her opening her first shelter and the formation of Galgos del Sol. She is now one of the most widely known workers in galgo rescue in Murcia.

Tina says, ‘here is a video celebrating how far we’ve come since Galgos Del Sol was founded back in 2011. We continue to build the dream with you by our side and we can never thank you enough. It’s because of you we acknowledge where we are today with this special presentation.

Please watch this wonderful film made by the talented filmmaker Alex C Rivera. Would you consider joining us on our journey by making a donation? We need your support to continue our much needed work of ending the plight of the galgos and podencos in Spain. Thank you.

  • Galga Careta with Galgos Rescue Almeria – making slow progress

    Galgo Rescue Almeria Carela 400 4 2020
It is hard for us to imagine what treatment is meted out to their galgos by the galgueros to make the hounds so terrified of life. This poor galga suffered – until she was rescued. After time and much patience, she is learning to trust humans.

‘Do you remember Careta? She came to GRA 31 March 2019 severely traumatized, we will never know what exactly happened to her.
All we know is that she is originally from a hunter in Cáceres and she was taken to a kennel in Dos Hermanas where she would be euthanized ….
Now more than a year later she has changed a lot, with a lot of patience and love she is no longer terrified.
Careta is a gorgeous girl with a backpack of bad experiences. She is drawn for life but after a year she has already made great progress and once she is with her family she will be able to leave her past behind. Galgo Rescue Almeria’
