  • Injured galga now safe with Protectora Scooby

    Scooby galga 1400 16 3 2023
    From Cobie Steketee at Scooby.

‘2 Weeks ago Scooby saved 5 galgos from the perrera provincial from Valladolid. This poor girl who was left there was very, very skinny and with several big infected wounds for which she gets treatment now. She is placed in a special “skinnies” kennel where they get a lot of special food so they can recuperate extra fast.

We have named her Mailen and so far she is doing very well.

  • Greyhounds In Need – more roadside casualties – 2 galgas rescued

    From Greyhounds In Need

Galga sisters, Luz (Light) and Vida (Life) were rescued from the roadside by volunteers from Arca de Noe in Albacete. Vida had been run over but despite being scared, her sister, Luz, never left her side, stayed with her during the rescue & being taken to the vet. Both Vida’s hips were broken but she has made a good recovery and Luz & Vida are now being fostered by a kind lady who has two more galgos at home.

Thank you to Arca de Noe & and foster mum for showing these girls that not everyone is cruel.

  • Arca de Noe – rescuing an injured galga

Arca de Noe injured galgo 400 3 2024
From Greyhounds In Need, who support the Arca de Noe Protectora in Spain

So many abandoned galgos wandering the campo and towns, so many at risk on the roads. And so many drivers don’t care if they hit one! Thank goodness for the kind people who do stop and help.

The wonderful team at Arca de Noe, Albacete rescued this little galga, Pau, from the roadside where she had been left after having been run over. She was taken to the vet where she was treated and is now recovering in a loving foster home.

Thank you to everyone at Arca de Noe

  • Galga Milagro – sadly her injured leg couldn’t be saved

    GRA Milagro 400 1 3 3034
With the French rescue association I worked with (till moving back to the UK) we brought out several galgo and podenco tripods. They always amazed me with how they adapted to having 3 legs instead of 4. Here’s the story of a new tripod with Galgos Rescue Almeria. If you can donate towards vet fees they will be very grateful as they are full to bursting with hounds.

    ‘Milagro

3/03. She had an appointment with the traumatologist. The vet and we did everything we could to save her leg, but in vain. Her first surgery in September ensured that her leg was back in the correct position. Barely a week after the surgery things went wrong, an infection developed in the joint, which meant she had to be hospitalised for 10 days and was given a course of antibiotics. This went well and so did her rehabilitation. During the 6 months that followed, she regularly developed inflammation in her joint, causing her paw to become swollen.

  • Another injured and abandoned soul picked up after the end of hunting

    GRA Chiqui 400 2 2 24
    From Galgos Rescue Almeria.

The already reserved dogs haven’t left yet and the requests for help keep pouring in. 2 Days ago we were asked if we still had room to help this sweetheart. We are already overcrowded but saying no is not an option.

Yesterday, in collaboration with Friends of Mazarrón Animals, this girl was brought to our Rescue center. On arrival we saw a real fear monger, once she was in the secure area things went a bit better. This sweetheart has a wound on her back and is missing 2 nails, one on the front leg and one on the hind leg. Fortunately, she is safe now and can recover from her past. We would like to thank @Xiki Apellido and her friend for bringing her safely to the center.

You can support our dogs for 1€ a month by joining our teaming group.

  • Protectora Scooby – December 2023 news bulletin 1

    From Fermin Perez.

The Villalobón Victims: You might remember the report in our August bulletin of the 8 dogs (7 galgos & 1 mastin) we rescued in Villalobón. They were in a pitiful state of neglect. It was an emergency situation in which we found cachexic dogs, full of internal and external parasites. Thanks to our vets and animal care staff, all of them were nursed back to good health, making a full recovery. We have homed 4 of them in Italy, where they are living la dolce vita and wrapping their adopted families around their paws. The remaining 4 dogs are at Scooby and equally dictating their needs to the staff while they wait for an adoption enquiry.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – always there for the galgos and podencos

GRA Make 2024 better for us 400
    From Sandy Galgoslover

2023, a year of ups & downs, joy & sadness, but also a year in which new collaborations were established.
Never before have so many abandoned, neglected and abused souls found their way to our Rescue center. Unfortunately, never before have so many animals been abandoned and dumped either….

If there is any improvement in people’s awareness animals are living beings and not products, we still notice little or nothing of it.

On the contrary, it seems to be getting worse….
