Baas Galgo have been helping rescue and care for dozens of galgos in Toledo, so they want to open and equip a refuge there. They desperately need funds for this project and you can help in the following way: please click on this link and add a comment. For every comment posted, the association will receive 50cents. Every 50cents will help towards the new refuge, as well as contributing towards the ongoing vet fees from the flooding earlier in the year in Cordoba. You can also follow the project on Facebook Galgo Espanol

Cuenca galga, dying from starvation, saved by Cuencanimal
Saved from the brink of death by starvation. Crouched in a hole in the ground, unable to stand to escape the volunteers, not understanding they want to save her. This dog has been starved for a long time. Cuencanimal has taken her into their care. The photos show her rescue and her visit to the vet. It will take time to build up this galga to a condition where she can be rehomed. If you want to donate to her care, the details follow.
Definition of STARVATION: starvation is a serious reduction in nutrients, vitamins and energy intake. It is the most extreme form of malnutrition, as a result of the prolonged lack of food. It is characterized by extreme weight loss, decreased metabolic rate and extreme weakness. Those who suffer from starvation may suffer severe damage to the organs and finally death. LADY was saved just in time.

Toledo, Spain, galgo hell – galgo graveyard, galgo in gully – Baas Galgo rescue
Toledo – hell for galgos. Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo reports on the latest examples of galguero cruelty.
‘Last weekend (weekend before Xmas) our Baasgalgo rescue team found a massive galgo graveyard. They have been digging all day and finally found 8 murdered galgos.
I cannot give you any more information since the case is now denounced. When Leticia came back and looked on our facebook page, she saw there was a girl called Selene asking for help…a galga was thrown into a gully around 800 meters deep.

Chiclana, Cadiz – Happy Ending/Final Feliz saving dogs
Happy Ending/Final Feliz is an animal rescue association near Chiclana, Cadiz. The association was created by Margarita, a Norwegian lady who keeps the rescued dogs in her own home, surviving on her pension and funds raised from car boot sales organised by her volunteer helpers. Earlier in the year, the association were threatened with court action as they were informed the land (used regularly by the public) was privately owned.
However, life improved this year for Margarethe and the dogs. She tells the story.

Gran Canaria – holidays in the sun – not for the abandoned animals!
Let’s not forget the shelters on the islands where so many people spend holidays in the sun…Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Mallorca, Ibiza…….behind the glitz, abandoned dogs and cats struggle to survive. It’s only thanks to the few shelters and volunteers that some of them are saved. But they still need to find forever homes, mostly on the European mainland.
Here’s the latest news on Gran Canaria

Burned with Acid – dumped in the Burgos perrera!
A while ago, animal volunteers in Burgos area, which I have travelled through and is a mass of half finished apartment blocks and huge cranes – a building site – heard that it is difficult to adopt out of the Burgos perrera. Immense ignorance, lack of information, lack of compliance with the law, the carelessness…. on 9th November this galga arrived, starving, normal for a dog abandoned on the street.
But Galgos del Norte got in there and this is what they found….(click on Lee Mas under the Salva story
The diagnosis of the vet, words cannot describe her suffering – BURNED by acid…. and this dog was just left in the kennels in the municipal kennels without treatment.

Christmas present suggestion – Sponsor a dog/kennel/stable
Spanish shelters and refuges rely on donations towards the cost of caring for their rescued dogs. Why not Sponsor a dog/kennel/stable as a Christmas or birthday present. The following are small refuges which will be very grateful for any help.
