  • Galga Arial with Galgo’s Rescue Almeria – having a tough time

    GAR Arial 400 20 10 2020
This lovely white galga arrived at Galgo’s Rescue Almeria at the end of September, with a huge growth on her belly. She was spayed and the hernia removed at the same time.

Unfortunately it didn’t heal well, as Sandy explains.

‘9th October – This morning we noticed that Arial’s wound was open again. We went straight to the clinic where she got immediately a first surgical procedure. The vet determined that the growths at the bottom of her belly had grown back a bit. So tomorrow a new procedure to remove the diseased tissue and re-stitch the wound again. Arial will have to stay at the clinic for a few days after the procedure to keep an eye on the wound.

20th October – Yesterday we visited Arial at the clinic. She already had 3 operations but the wound doesn’t seem to close properly. Our poor girl looks sad, it’s been a long time she’s in the clinic now. If the wound stops bleeding she can finally come home end of this week. Due to the severity of the wound and to prevent a possible infection, Arial will be taken care of in a home situation.

  • Galgo’s Rescue Almeria – rescued in poor condition from a hunter

    GRA 3 galgos black 400
From Sandy at Galgo’s Rescue Almeria

‘Last week we collected 3 Galgos, GRA wants to thanks Tracey Smith for convincing the hunter to sign them over. All three are very skinny and the 2 adults have a lot of wounds and some skin problems.

We were a little bit worried for their blood results, so we went directly to the vet . All 3 got a first medical checkup. The 2 adults are blood tested, the boy is negative for Leish/ Erlichia/ Anaplasma and Filaria the girl also negative for Leish/ Erlichia/ Filaria but positive for Anaplasma. She need a treatment with doxiciclina for 28 days. The puppy, we gave her the name Olivia, got also a checkup. Because she’s also under weight she only received her booster vaccination/ chip/ European passport.

Luckily all 3 are safe now and a new future is waiting for them.

  • 4 galgo puppies dumped by a rubbish bin. Protectora Scooby have them safe.

    Scooby rubbish galgos 1 400 12 9 2020
    From Cobie at Scooby Medina.

Four babies, galgos, abandoned inside a box and next to a rubbish bin. Because that is what animals are to some despicable beings, things that if they are not worth are thrown away. It is seen that the breeder kept the females of the litter, which are more sought after in the galguero world, and throw the males because they are not worth keeping.

If you want to give one of them a home, send us an email to internationaladoptions@scoobymedina.org

  • Galgo’s Rescue Almeria takes in another lost soul

    GRA galga 400 3 9 2020
From Galgo’s Rescue Almeria, Sandy tells the story.

‘Saving animals is a never ending story. We received a message if we could help this girl. At this moment we don’t know much about her past. Is she’s traumatised, does she have wounds/ injuries, what about her blood results…..? Wednesday she came to GRA the beginning of a new life / future for this girl.

Yesterday we went to the vet with Cheli, named after the girl who found her. She received a full examination and a bloodtest. Her blood results were negative for Filaria and Erlichia but unfortunately positive for Leish and Anaplasma. To start the right treatment a blood sample has been taken.

All help with vet bills is welcome.

  • Galgos112 – abandoned Benjamin finally safe

    Galgos112 Ben 400 8 2020
    From Galgos112.

‘Good luck arrived for Benjamin (Ben) and he still doesn’t know it. He went to a bar area and terraces looking for food, people threw him out of there but hunger was stronger than fear, he came back again and again. Marta was having dinner at the pizza place and she saw him and she didn’t stop until she got him.

Ben is a big and good galgo, very quiet. Without fear of people. He was covered in ticks and other parasites, and on the left side of his neck he has a wound that looks like his chip was removed.

Ben, your life has changed and as soon as you have a family that adopts you, you’ll realize how lucky you’ve been.
