  • The work of Galgos del Sol in Murcia

One of the very first stories I ran when I started Galgo News back in 2008 was about Ruso, a galgo left in a Spanish shelter where a English volunteer, Tina Solera, helped out. She contacted me and together we started on a journey which culminated in her opening her first shelter and the formation of Galgos del Sol. She is now one of the most widely known workers in galgo rescue in Murcia.

Tina says, ‘here is a video celebrating how far we’ve come since Galgos Del Sol was founded back in 2011. We continue to build the dream with you by our side and we can never thank you enough. It’s because of you we acknowledge where we are today with this special presentation.

Please watch this wonderful film made by the talented filmmaker Alex C Rivera. Would you consider joining us on our journey by making a donation? We need your support to continue our much needed work of ending the plight of the galgos and podencos in Spain. Thank you.

  • Protectora Scooby – feeling the effects of lockdown

    Scooby appeal during lockdown 3 2020 400
So many shelters will be suffering as a result of lockdown – animals can’t be transported to their forever homes. Here’s an appeal from Scooby, but many other associations will be feeling the same.

‘We are very worried about our animals and their future, you know that we managed to get many dogs and cats adopted by collaborating with other associations of countries such as France, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic or USA.

We are clear that if it were not for the help from outside Spain it would be impossible for us to rescue so many animals because Spain’s adoptions in global computation mean less than 15 % of total adoptions…, and what if the animal shipments for the theme of coronavirus? Before lockdown, there was a scheduled trip to Milan and this could not be made, this means that animals have to stay longer with us, and the worst, that while some do not leave we can not help others because we have no place to help others.

  • Animal charities desperate for help

This is an appeal from Spanish Stray Dogs charity, but their situation during this time will be the same for all animal charities, especially as, with people not being able to work, there could be more dogs abandoned than ever. Please support your favourite dog charities.

‘We have suffered a huge set back financially as many other charities and families around the world have. Due to the pandemic, our two charities shops in Spain have been forced to shut. This has had a huge impact on the charities finances and is a very very big cause for concern for us for the future of the work we do.

We need your financial support more than ever now’. As the lock down in Spain carries on and on with no real end in sight we face very serious consequences if we cannot find the money we need to provide food, labour and vet care to over 300 dogs a month!

  • Richard Skipworth design collars

    Richard Skipworth collars 400
Regular readers will know that I sometimes publish amusing cartoons by Richard Skipworth, who is passionate about greyhounds in the UK, but the cartoons are also great for galgos. There is now a range of collars, key fobs…on sale using his designs.

This just in from Izzy & Finn’s Hound Boutique, who made a donation to Greyhound Trust Hall Green for every Skipworth collar they sold!….

Since the launch of the Rich Skipworth’s Greyhound Designs collars on the website we have raised a whopping £1002 for Greyhound Trust Hall Green. A massive Thank You to everyone who has purchased a collar, lead or keyfob as you have all helped with this amazing total. They are all still available to buy from the charity section on the website and a donation from each sale still goes to the greyhounds
