Viv Wharton and the ACTIN team do incredible work in the Cartagena area of Murcia where animal cruelty among the Spanish is rife. At the moment they are working to close down a municipal dog pound and need all the support they can get, especially to pay their legal and vet fees for the dogs they take out, some of whom are extremely sick. Read about it here and donate to show your support for the incredible work they do. They are setting a precedent in Spain.

Pepis Dog Refuge – thanks to donators
Back from Spain now. Before I went, I scheduled some articles to publish whilst I was away and I hope you have found them interesting. One of the two refuges we visited was Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera and many of you very kindly sent parcels to me to take down to them. Below is Jane’s message to you all.
The weather was good whilst we were there but after we had left Pepis suffered yet another terrible mud slide all through the kennels and ground floor of the house – on Christmas Day! They have the most wonderful dogs at Pepis – over 70 – and some of them have been there since puppies – 3 or 4 years now (look at beautiful Sandy) – all waiting for forever homes. I’d have brought some of them back for me – except 5 dogs here is enough when taking into account dog food and vet fees/vaccinations etc! Please take a look at their dogs in adoption.

It’s a Dog’s Life – please donate a poem to raise funds for dogs
This is about dogs, not just galgos and podencos. If any of you are budding poets, please consider donating a poem to help this charity in Bulgaria.

Galgo Ebro in Malaga – another story of tremendous fighting spirit and dedication
In December 2012 112carlotagalgos took two galgos from a perrera – Jade and Ebro. When they arrived at the finca, Ebro had two broken front legs. Jade sadly fell ill and died – Ebro fought against all odds to survive for her. His story is another example of the incredible fighting spirit of the galgo and also of the complete dedication of hundreds of volunteers throughout Spain who devote their lives to putting back together the broken bodies and minds of the innocent souls. Three galgos thrown over a fence into Maria’s garden – at danger of being stolen again for selling on…so they were put into kennels in Malaga for 112carlotagalgos until there is room at the finca for them. So far, vet and kennel fees paid out this week, 940 euros…the association relies entirely on donations. Paypal donations to comdelrio@hotmail.com.

Chained galga starving to death – now fighting to live
This is galga Adina – chained up, no food, no water, left to starve to death. Rescued and taken immediately to the vet and kept in the clinic for a few days to monitor. Now she is safe with 112carlotagalgos. Charl tells the story – briefly
‘I now introduce you to Princess Adina!
Survival is her wish. Her longing to live through the darker days held her… brought her to this.. home.
At the moment we’re not testing her .. everything seems to be working ok for the moment. Bowels and urine. But she will be watched. Tests of the usual would only be false at this time. So recuperation is what she needs. Rest. Food. Rest. Food.
She longed to live.. here she is. Welcome to finca 112 Carlotagalgos special girl.
Embraced by chains.. you have been released. We have prayed for you. For strength to see a new day.. It’s yours to take now.. day by day. Little by little.. you will see your forever.’
Vet fees are already mounting, plus special food costs – please donate by paypal to comdelrio@hotmail.com.

I’ll be meeting up with Sandra in Seville on Sunday night so post any messages you’d like me to give her and I’ll print them off and put them in an Xmas card for her.

Updates – Gala, Tico, Foguete
GALA: (from Cobie at Scooby) She gave milk so the vet made an echography and from the form of the uterus he could see that she had given birth very recently. A galguero would never murder a litter of real galgos so probably it wase mixes. He stole them from her, probably mad because of the mixes, murdered them and hung her in a tree to die.
Better nobody tells us who the bastard is who did this to her, because really, I swear…! She is not just sweet but super, super, super sweet and bravely trying to forget the horror which came over her the last few days!! Galgos…they are just amazing…! The first picture is Gala with her saviour, a few moments after he cut her loose from the tree, milles gracias de corazon!!!!! The other picture shows Gala enjoying the sun and the other dogs´company.
