  • Update on Eboli – badly injured galga, rescued by El Refugio Kimba

Refugio Kimba Eboli carried 190Update on Eboli, rescued by El Refugio Kimba – badly injured on the road with part of a bumper embedded in her.

Eboli is much better, on Tuesday 15/10 she will go to the vet again so they can remove the plate in the broken leg and start working on the rehabilitation. She is a wonderful galgo, despite the pain that she has suffered, she has never been bad with anyone, even when taking her medication. She is treated twice daily to help her skin recover; she lost most of the skin on her leg which also became infected.

If you would like to help Eboli, here’s the link to the Refugio Kimba website. If my memory serves me right from when I was researching my galgo book, Kimba is the oldest animal shelter in Spain, originally set up to protect fauna and flora.

  • Scooby Medina – a story of galgo love

A simply beautiful story – and why we all love galgos so much and fight so hard for a better life for them. Don’t forget that Scooby has hundreds of dogs, cats, dozens of horses and other animals all needing feeding and rehoming. Please think of Scooby if you can spare the cost of even just a couple of cups of coffee.

  • Portugal Dog Rescue – traumatised galgo Duke urgently needs your help

Portugal Dog Rescue Duke 250 10 2013Regular readers will remember the story of Estrela, the galga in Portugal, starving, sick with pneumonia, feeding 3 puppies. Teresa Sousa and her team eventually persuaded the hunter to let them have Estrela and the pups, who regained their health and adopted. Estrela found a wonderful forever home in the UK.

Now the hunter has given Teresa Estrela’s brother who they have named Duke. Duke too is sick and traumatised. Since rescuing him, Teresa has had more dogs dumped on her and so they do not have the space nor the time to give Duke the time and space needed to heal him. Ines explains his story and their appeal for him.

  • ACTIN/AWSM galgos for adoption

Ky AWSM 250 3 2013This is Ky, who I recently met with the rest of the ACTIN/Animal Welfare Support Murcia Galgos Aysha, Rubio and Donna – who’s only a year old. They all have a tale to tell of cruelty and suffering at the hands of the galgueros but are now safe in foster and waiting for their forever homes. They’ve been waiting quite a long time, there must be someone out there who has space in their hearts and homes for these beautiful galgos.

Ky is black and white, Aysha is a stunning chocolate brown, Rubio is tan and Donna is in the bottom pix lying on the sofa! You can also see me below with little Podenca mum Bonny, also looking for a forever home, and their foster mom Sherlie. If you can’t adopt one, please consider sponsoring one – they all need to eat, why not sponsor a galgo for a month or more.

Please contact ACTIN if you wish to sponsor adopt one. admin@actin-spain.com

  • Save starving galgos before the hunters kill them…

Galgos at rubbish dump 250 9 2013These are part of a pack of galgos that hunters want to trap and kill because they killed a sheep because they were abandoned and starting. There is no room in the refuges so money is needed to pay for them to go into a kennels. A Refuge in Malaga and one in Seville have said they will have room to take the dogs next week. If the hunters get the galgos, they will kill them cruelly in retaliation for the sheep!

You can donate to this special Paypal a/c set up purely for these dogs to go in kennels. cucomaru2@gmail.com

  • New Galgos in Scooby Valladolid – adopt a galgo

Scooby Gustavo Lima 190 9 2013These lovely galgos are with Scooby Residencia Valladolid, hoping to find forever homes. These 2 beauties were rescued at the beginning of the week by Scooby from the perrera provincial in Valladolid. Taken there by their owner because they were not good for hunting, he said. It´s the same old song from the hunters, but happily these two are very good for sofa dogs. They are 2 boys, gorgeous, very sweet, not afraid. Lima has the white face and chest, Gustavo is the other one. Will make wonderful pets.

This is Tigressa. She’s an older girl, 7 years old, and been used as a breeding machine. She’s kind and gentle and has a lot of love to give. Towards the end of the video you can hear Cobie describing her character.

And this is Cali, a young galgo mix, under 2 years old. He was rescued from the campo, very afraid. You can see his is still nervous of people but gains in confidence and trust every day.

If you can offer any of these beauties a forever home, please contact Scooby.
