In France where I live there are regularly held Salon du Chiot which are hug ‘fairs’ at which you can buy puppies and anything to do with dogs. These fairs should be banned. Please sign and share this petition, even if you don’t live in France.

Portuguese Galgos…suffer the same as the Spanish ones
Although galgos in Portugal are not bred, used and abandoned in the number they are in Spain…it being a smaller country, they still suffer the same abuse as the Spanish ones. This stunning black beauty is one rescued by Dogs of Portugal. Read about Saaga on and if you would like to offer her a forever home, contact the association direct. Some years ago I worked with a volunteer in Portugal to save a galgo family from a drunk and abusive household. We saved them all and Estrela came to me in foster and went to a forever home in the UK. This is the original story.

Update on the mass graveyard at Tarracoin
A volunteer with Yo Galgo reports. ‘Yesterday we returned to the mass grave in Tarancón to take out the bodies of the galgos that, during years, have been thrown there, and to try to find evidence to persecute the perpetrators of this crime. The place, known as The Cut, has been used for more than 20 years to dump galgos no longer wanted by their owners. The volunteers recovered 25 bodies, but for safety reasons it was impossible to reach the deeper layers of the pit, where dozens of galgos were piled up.
At least two bodies I photographed last time I was there have disappeared. A clear indication that their owners, frightened by the repercussion of the news, have returned to remove the corpses of their dogs. This is interesting because the hunting society always claims that abandoned or killed dogs, are dogs that have been stolen, “as no galguero would treat their dog like that”. But no thief would return for the bodies of the dead dogs, that makes no sense. All points to the galgueros. Go to www.yo-galgo.com to know more. (click on Union Jack for English)

5 galgos in Murcia hoping for forever homes
Podenco Friends takes podencos but they will not turn their back if a situation arises for galgos from a local galguero. Here Bev Farmer comments on these 5 they took in.‘The five galgos handed over from the galgueo have quickly adapted to a new routine and apart from Halcon who is still a little nervy they are all comfortable with people. Although they didn’t live a life of luxury from where they came from, credit due to their owner for handing over these dogs in reasonable condition, apart from Cameron who needed surgery to remove a couple of lumps. These 5 galgos are very fortunate they will never know the fear of been handed into a perrera or at risk on the road getting badly injured.
For these five lucky ones, there are thousands more whose fate will be very different. Daily reports coming from rescues of galgos found severely injured from road traffic accidents, just left to die or needing life saving surgery at significant cost, not to mention a long recovery period.

IN THE EYES OF A GALGO
In the eyes of a galgo you can always see a hint of sadness, left over from something that will never be completely healed, the legacy of a suffering which has no release. Carried with dignity, but deep nevertheless. In the eyes of a galgo you can see the request for food, affection, love, for a safe place where he can let himself go, where he can rest without the terror of waking up in hell.
In the eyes of a galgo you can see absolute devotion which never becomes servile, a proud gaze that scans the horizon, a hymn to freedom.
In the eyes of a galgo you can see the crafty and slightly cunning air of someone who has learned that man will beat you down if you seem too cocky.
When your gaze meets the eyes of a galgo and you open your heart, your way of seeing dogs changes forever. Thank you, Cabi, for all this.

Taracon, Castilla la Mancha – graveyard for galgos found
Below is an English translation of this sad story. Warning, upsetting pictures.
The remains of nearly 30 dogs have appeared in a mass grave in Tarancón. Most of them are galgos. Because of the advanced state of decomposition found in some of them SEPRONA suspect that this pit has been in use for years.
“Very likely some of the animals have been thrown down alive, as the place where they have been thrown into it is completely impossible to be able to get out of there, so they are condemned to die of hunger and thirst.” Is what sustains from Left Unit Tarancón Councilwoman Carolina King, who has denounced this finding together with the protection of animals Home of Peace.
It would be a common grave with bodies of dogs, some found in bags. According to Carolina King, some animals exhibited a more recent death and older ones.
The Seprona is investigating who or those who are responsible for this macabre finding. Some of these animals have their own chip so it is easy to identify them and to their owners”, explained the councilman. In fact, these homeowners would have gone a few months ago to the protective Home of Peace for to be in charge of the animals.
