  • Greyhounds around the Globe Conference – sign the petition

Grey2USA global conference 400From Christine Dorchak, President of Grey2K USA

I have just returned from the biggest weekend ever for greyhounds! Our Greyhounds Around the Globe conference in Florida brought together advocates from ten countries, all of whom are now committed to working together to help end commercial dog racing in the Sunshine State and worldwide.

Our Delray Beach conference began with the release of our new video by ABC News. We have now exposed the violent collisions, injuries and deaths that greyhounds suffer in Florida each month, particularly at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. In fact, according to state records, a dog dies every three days at a local racetrack! Working together, we mean to change this.

The Greyhounds Around the Globe conferees have now taken our first joint action and on Saturday, we issued a group letter to the leaders of the eight countries with commercial dog racing. Now it’s your turn to help.

  • Pepi’s Xmas Auction – fabulous range of items for Xmas gifts

Auction picture 2 400For those of you who are on facebook or able to see facebook pages, Jan, Sam, Nina and I are running an Xmas auction – this is the link to the album.

There is still an horrendous 5,300 euros vet bill to pay off for Pepi’s refuge and this is the reason we are organising this auction. Please join in if you can, share with your friends.

Pepi’s Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville, has an outstanding vet bill of 5,300 euros, accumulated since October 2014. How on earth did they run up such an amount, you ask. Quite simply a decrease in donations – on which Pepi’s survives – and a large increase in sick and injured dogs, especially the parvo virus outbreak in all the puppies over several months.

  • Letter to the Spanish Hunters – they have changed nothing…

It is now 10 years since members of some prominent galgo/podenco rescue associations – Galgos sin Fronteras, Amigos de los Galgos, Greyhounds in Need and others – met with the then Spanish Minister of the Environment Cristina Narbona and representatives of the Spanish hunting federations to discuss tackling the problem of over-breeding and mass killing/abandonment of their hunting dogs. Sadly the hunters were not prepared to meet any of the reasonable demands of the associations, too arrogant to even acknowledge the problems they caused. Sadly also since then there has not been another Spanish Minister prepared to consider the problem.

Often I, like the amazing volunteers working on the ground in Spain, woke up angry against the hunters and the long-reaching problems they cause, and so in March 2013 I put fingers to computer and wrote this letter to them! I am reposting here because the contents STILL apply, over 3 years on.

  • Rescata Animal Granada – saving galgos

Rescata Animal Granada 400 5 10 2016Rescata Animal Granada found this galga in this state. I have tried following the story in the comments on facebook but it is not clear. One says the owner was looking for the dog for days, another says it has been given back to the owner. None say if the dog is getting vet treatment etc. I have asked the question but it is difficult as I don’t speak Spanish! Here is the facebook link if anyone can help.

  • 9th October 2016 – Spain protests against hunting with galgos and other hounds

9 October Madrid protest 400 9 10 2016From Fermin Perez Martin. 90 % of the dogs that come to Scooby are victims of the hunt. Animals that when they cease to be useful are abandoned to their fate. A lot of them spend months wandering because they fear men, get run over, dying of hunger, thirst or disease.

This weekend is celebrated in Madrid the days “no to the hunt with galgos and other breeds” which will culminate on Sunday with a silent concentration at 15 pm in the plaza de cibeles. All the information at http://bit.ly/2cgDEGR

Here is a translation of the piece.

We are an association non-partisan, non-denominational and non-profit antispeciesist, whose fundamental objective is to raise awareness and promote respect and interests individual of non-human animals, especially those related to the hunting, as well as uphold and expand their rights.
