  • Manifestation, Strasbourg, 8th June 2013 – see you there

C.R.E.L., the French galgo and podenco rescue association in the Vosges region of France is organising the 2nd Manifestation in Strasbourg – date is 8th June 2013. Please consider travelling there and taking part. Last year there were over 1,000 of us marching with over 400 galgos and podencos. It was a fantastic opportunity to network with rescue and rehoming associations from around Europe. Contact C.R.E.L. for more information, Barbara LeFrance speaks excellent English.

  • The Greyhound Racing Industry in the US

This is the trailer for the first feature-length documentary film to explore the 4,000-year history of the greyhound breed. Second only to the cheetah in speed and acceleration, these regal hot rods are one of nature’s near-perfect creations. A work in progress with a planned release in June 2013, the film will also feature an evenhanded examination of the history and inner workings of the highly controversial greyhound racing industry in the U.S.

  • Galgos killed in Fuensalida, Toledo – WARNING – upsetting photos

Here are the photos of the murdered galgos in Fuensalida. Remember, the hunters claim they aren’t cruel to their dogs, they don’t hang them! They may not hang so many now as they used to but Toledo is a particularly bad area for galgos…

Warning, these pictures could upset you

  • Galgos killed in Fuensalida, Toledo – sign the petition

    From Sandra Baas.

‘Once again they have done it … and they will continue. Spain remains the country where sadistic hunters hang their galgos, with complete impunity. Galgueros, an extremely dangerous sect which decides which of these angels must die and how. Galgueros, the sect that not only exploits and abuses their galgos every day of their lives, but also revels in providing an agonizing death.

Once again it is in a town of Toledo, specifically in Fuensalida. Be ashamed, the Council of Fuensalida because you are as guilty as the ones who killed these dogs, you are guilty because you know it happens and you remain silent about it.

  • Wild Time Radio, Spain – ACTIN highlights the animal cruelty problem

Vivienne Wharton of ACTIN was recently interviewed for Wild Time Radio and you can listen to it here. The interviewer is not the best in the world (I’m an ex BBC radio presenter and I can tell you he wouldn’t last long there!) But Vivienne does manage to get over a lot of important points to draw attention to the terrible dog abandonment in Murcia and animal cruelty in general.

  • Spain’s stray dogs used in pet food!

I’m now back from the UK – funeral and house clearance – never a nice job. So now trying to catch up on the news.

Here’s a story which will shock you. Please publicise widely.

  • 4th April 2013 – Happy Belated Birthday DutchGalgoLobby

Apologies that this news is a little late. I’m currently in the UK for a funeral and flat clearing and have restricted access to a computer.

Happy 2nd Birthday DutchGalgoLobby on 4th April 2013

On April 4th, DutchGalgoLobby celebrates her 2nd birthday. In her relatively short existence, DutchGalgoLobby has achieved quite a lot. Dutch Politics are now well aware of the Galgo mistreatment in Spain and one of the parties even set up a resolution to ask the Dutch government to take action. Regretfully this resolution did not get enough votes to pass because they still think it is an internal Spanish problem, to be solved by Spain. (Subsidiarity principle)

Therefore we approached the European Parliament which is in progress but takes time. European parliament is rather sluggish!
