These two galgos were rescued from the Resur perrera by Animales de Baeza. They are in kennels because there is no room in the refuge and they could now be stolen if they are not taken. Their kennel fees have been paid for 2 weeks, plus vaccinations. Is there an association which can take them for foster and rehoming. The French association which helps her have already taken some galgos from her. Clara is the brindle one, Diana the black one. Please contact Mairie Teresa at Baeza, Jaen. Apparently there are still more galgos on death row in Resur, but her shelter is full. animalesdebaeza@gmail.com
August, and there are still galgos arriving in the killing station!

URGENT – special adoption home needed for Jaen galgo Voyka with Wobbler Syndrome
You may remember earlier in the year I posted the story of Voyka a young galgo found abandoned, who had co-ordination problems with walking, possibly as a result of a blow to the head. This is an urgent appeal for an adoption for him, to save him going back to the kennels. There was an adoption application but, after extensive research, it was not deemed the right home for him. Because of his physical problems, he needs a really special home, with another dog, where his disability will not cause a problem. This is the report from Lourdes, who has him in her care.

Amigos de los Galgos – exposing the galgo hunters in Ciudad Real June 2012
Received from Nuria Blanco, Amigos de los Galgos, who has been fighting the cause for the galgos for decades. It’s a miracle the dog didn’t seriously injure itself.
‘It is worth we keep on fighting for them isn´it ?

Murcia – June 2012 – Spanish hunters still perpetrating unbelievable cruelty on their galgos – THIS HAS TO STOP!
News in from Scooby Medina.
Murcia: More than 16 murdered galgos found in a village in Murcia with signs that they were violently mistreated. The same galgueros there have more galgos, these were seen this week without water or food and with these hot summer temperatures…
This is a place where several hunters keep their dogs in the worst possible conditions and where they horribly kill the ones they no longer want. Murcia is a dreadful place for animals, especially galgos, and there are many such places we don’t know about. Everyone should raise a stink. But the police need to have a chance to act ( it’s the first time they act, in that part of Spain they mostly completely ignore the cruelty cases) or we can make them angry and they can just turn their backs for good.
WARNING. EXTREMELY UPSETTING PHOTOS

Greyhounds/Galgos Help in the World – Facebook page
I know many of you don’t like Facebook and don’t have Facebook pages. I don’t use it, apart from my Save the Galgo and Help the Podencos pages – anything to publicise their plight. There is now a new Facebook page to help the galgos, which is doing marvellous publicity. However, there are just so many posts that I’m afraid I simply don’t have the time to bring them all to you. If you are on Facebook and have not yet joined the group, this is the link.

Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – saving galgos
A documentary about the work of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert. It is in Spanish but the pictures tell the tale anyway. Some of the photos of hung galgos are old ones, some are in my book, but the film of the galgos in the hands of the hunter, the fear, the conditions, etc, illustrate just how little these men care for the dogs they have. It also illustrates the rehabilitation work done by the association.

Zaragoza perrera denounced – Seprona takes action
Seprona investigated the work methods in the perrera in Zaragoza, in reaction to several denuncias made by animal protection organisations. They found that euthanasia was performed without anaesthesia, animals were put alive in freezers to die: mainly pups and cats. Seprona handed their investigation reports to the authorities on May 2, 2012, they want the owner to be prosecuted for violating the law on protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals. Report in Spanish.
I am somewhat surprised to read this, as the vet there has worked to help associations publicise dogs for adoption, and facilitate adoptions. Also, I would be very interested to hear from someone who works in a perrera, dealing daily with the killing of dogs and cats. How do they cope with it, how long are the able to work in that job?
