Finally the official status of animals in France has been upgraded. The Civil Code from the reign of Napoleon (most laws in France stem from Napoleon) states that pets were classified as personal property, which is the same status as furniture.
Now pets have officially been amended to sentient status (creatures with feelings).
When is Spain going to take this step?
The galgueros will always continue to deny any of them maltreat their dogs. There are a few who do not but they are as guilty insofar as they do nothing to prevent the majority who abandon, murder, starve their hounds. I have copied this from a post on my Save the Galgo facebook page.

The galguero federations across Spain have become very active in defense of the claims that galgos in the tens of thousands are abandoned and brutally abused and killed at the end of each hunting season.
Please help this poor boy. He has been named Oli. He was hit by a car and fell and the next two or three cars ran over his front legs without even slowing down. He has been taken in by Vero, a friend of Charl del Rio. Vero rescues many dogs and cannot afford the extensive vet fees needed to help Oli. Those of you who know Ebro’s story will know what a very long journey it will be to repair Oli’s legs so he can walk again. Please help Oli or the vet may put him down. Paypal is adoptaotros@live.com
David did his jump – glorious day over La Rochelle, clear skies. Here are some photos of Christophe and Francois (the two professional parachutists at Altitudes) going through the briefing with David and a French guy doing his first jump as a birthday present. There’s also a short video here but please, it’s not very good…the sun was bright, I couldn’t see what was in my tablet screen, so I just pointed and hoped! You can see from the windsock the wind speed was about 24 kmh. Please sponsor him – 10,000 feet is a long way to fall out of a little plane over La Rochelle when the wind is blowing!

A tortured soul one so beaten down ‘Ive got to say I cringe at the thought. Sadly I’ve seen many a case of a beaten down galgo or pod.. but Lucas cries a tear and with that tear my heart bleeds.
He makes me remember Apolo.. Ann Kneightly. For Lucas is more pod than Galgo.
Lucas is a podenco/galgo cross rescued from a street in Hellin. He will need a lot of medical care, it is believed that he has mange, ehrlichia and leishmania. He was stoned by a group of older kids. I’ve been asked how Polar is progressing. Where do I start?! He’s been with me a year now and he continues to collect asbos (anti social behaviour orders) – a ball of white knitting wool was unravelled around the courtyard today! He’s digging up my plants, scattering soil all over the terrasse; a paperback book stolen and chewed, the hose for the outlet on my tumble dryer squashed…and he’s STILL only 16 months old! The caption for this photo is ‘I’m knackered with all this being naughty!’
He is thoroughly enjoying dog obedience classes where he is a popular personality. He is good with his response to commands – sit, down, stay, heel – his recall is also excellent – except the exercise where he is supposed to sit and stay whilst I walk a distance away. I only need to take two or three strides and he’s already straining at the lead to follow me!
Not a galgo nor a podenco, but a deserving dog in Spain. ACTIN have done tremendous work on this case and now it can be published. Please read and donate towards their legal bills. And their outstanding vet bill is over 2,500 euros!
