  • Scooby Medina, Scooby Valladolid – helping the animals of Spain

I’ve said before that one of the reasons progress in Spain in helping the galgos is slow is because animal rescue organisations argue amongst themselves. And it’s not just in Spain. For some people,it’s an ego trip to say ‘I’m the president of the association’. So what, you’re a person just like the rest of us. I’ve met a few of them over the years.

Fermin of Scooby has also met them. Here’s his latest piece on the Scooby English News Blog.

Don’t forget that Scooby has hundreds of dogs and other animals – they all need feeding and most are ready for forever homes. Please help Scooby.

  • La Bienvenida Protectora, Ciudad Real – 16 galgo puppies dumped in 2 days!

La Bienvenida 16 pups 250 7 2014La Bienvenida refuge at Ciudad Real (200km south of Madrid) was the first refuge in Spain which I visited back in 2007 with the French association L’Europe des Levriers. We brought 4 galgos from there back to France for rehoming, one of which was my beloved Sahara. Ciudad Real is a terrible place for galgos and podencos to exist. Recently they had 16 galgos and pups dumped there. Here’s the story.

’16 galgo PUPPIES abandoned in less than 24 hours! Summer is always the worst time for dropouts is unclear but at La Bienvenida Ciudad Real protective welcome could not have been worse with the arrival in less than 24 hours of 16 abandoned puppies, 9 on the night of Monday and 7 yesterday. All of them are galgos and babies, which makes it impossible to keep in the refuge, with the rest of dogs, in case any are sick, until they are vaccinated.

  • Council of Badajoz – refuting their false claims

At the meeting of the Pleno at Badajoz Town Hall on Monday, 9 June 2014, Councillor Ana Serra told a story about the social work performed by the municipal perrera. A place of sanctuary, where the dogs can go if they are lost or abandoned, to be fed, watered and rested, and to wait for their owners to claim them or to be adopted. We have accompanied her words with pictures, to make it clear what is the reality and what is in the imagination.
