  • Protectora Scooby Medina – dozens of beautiful galgos hoping for forever homes

Protectora Scooby Medina is overflowing with beautiful galgos hoping for forever homes.

Click on this weblink to view them.

Quite a few are traumatised after a hellish life at the hands of the galgueros, so they need special quiet homes preferably with another dog, so they can gain confidence and become ‘normal’ dogs. Sometimes this can take a couple of years. But they are so forgiving and it is very rewarding to know you have helped them gain trust in humans. Here are a couple of videos of some of these hounds, hopefully you can view them.

  • Galgo Morgan with Galgos 112 – hoping for his forever home

    112Morgan 2 350
Introducing Morgan with Galgos 112. Morgan is a young galguit, not even two years old, who was abandoned by some soulless in a village. The kennel was warned but he got lucky and finished us. Since then he is in residence and he is spending it there regularly, he is a very sensitive greyhound and he is not used to both dogs and barking.

Already been to the vet and his blood tests are good, dewormed and vaccinated.

He’s pretty calm in nature. A little unconfident with strangers but loving with the people they meet.

We are looking for Morgan a quiet family that lives in an area without a lot of noise of people and cars. No need for them to have another dog, we think Morgan, although she gets along smoothly with other dogs, can get used to being the only dog in her family.
He can also live with cats.

If you would like to foster or adopt Morgan write to info@galgos112.com and tell us your town and a contact phone number.

    GRA Ginetta 1 350
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

Gineta is a proud 15-year-old black Galgo, her past is and remains a big mystery. She doesn’t look 15 but everything has been checked, chip number, date of implantation, and date of first rabies vaccination and the only conclusion is that her date of birth is indeed 02-06-2010. Her soft eyes tell stories of pain and disappointment, but also of an indestructible spirit.

  • Galgo Perico – another victim of galguero abuse

    GRA Perico 350
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.

Perocp came unwanted by his galguero and in a very poor state. Taken to the vet, his kidneys were not functioning property. put on a drip and staying in the clinic for further treatment and observation.

Unfortunately, we have no good news to report. Sadly we received a phone call from the vet that Perico had passed away. Further analyses showed that he had Leishmania, his kidneys were hardly functioning anymore. The Leish must have been there for a long time, he spent years with his “owner” but never had any vaccination or protection. Perico is yet another victim of these abuses.

It’s a great loss for us. Perico will be cremated and return to the shelter, a tree will be planted in his memory. Rest in peace boy, you will be not alone up there over the rainbow bridge.

  • Stomach cancer in dogs

    Bo face 1 400
    Living with a stomach tumour

Not a galgo but our blind podenco Bo (Bocelli) who we adopted in 2022. In 2023 he had a small tumour removed from his stomach. We were warned it could return. He is the third of our Spanish hounds to suffer from stomach cancer. Galga Sahara had an inoperable one many years ago and galgo Bracken had one in 2021, not long after our return to the UK after living in France for 19 years.

In February 2025, 2 years later after diagnosis. Bo’s stomach started to swell again. A scan at the vets confirmed our worst fears – the tumour had returned and this time it was judged inoperable, as it could be attached to either the spleen or the liver.

In himself, Bo was his usual happy cheeky self, eating normally, playing with our other podenco. But as his stomach swelled, he hadn’t the energy to go on the long walks of previous years.

  • Galgos en Familia – life after the floods – seeking a new shelter

    Galgos en Familia 4 350

    From Galgos en Familia

    20 March 2025

    BAD NEWS

Today we have to give you a very painful and heartbreaking news. Our shelter is closing its doors forever in this place. After seeing its condition and assessing the damage, another reconstruction is impossible, we can’t cope.

Besides the risk of losing one of our dogs has been too close this time, 2 dogs from the outside area escaped death by minutes and if the person who received the warning call, had the phone on silent or a deeper sleep, today we would be crying the death of all our dogs and we can’t cope with that.

Our shelter has always been our greatest pride, our safe place and who knows us knows how much we have fought for it, years of effort and dedication.

Kerry says ‘We’ve been researching Merlin’s breed, and we believe he belongs to one of the rarest breeds in the world! We’ve had a couple of these incredible dogs, including Lady, who arrived in the UK two years ago. I spoke with her owner and she still hasn’t found another of the same breed in the UK.
