You probably heard in the news about the wild fires in Southern Spain. On
31st August we received the terrible news that Kim’s Animal Rescue in
La Cala de Mijas had been badly affected.
On the night 30th/31st August the rescue had to be evacuated. The volunteers
at the rescue worked tirelessly through the night to try to evacuate as many
dogs and cats as possible. The local police at 1 a.m in the morning closed off
all the roads leading to the rescue, saying it was too dangerous. The only way
to access the rescue was through the dried river-bed which covers an area at the
bottom of the valley. The helpers drove their cars along the dried river-bed to
get within 100 yards of the lower part of the rescue, the cattery.
Look at this – probably not an uncommon occurrence in the perreras – mama galga and new puppies found on the campo and taken to the killing station! Sentenced to death before they’ve even opened their eyes? Contact Maribel if any associations can take them all (reference Susanna) maribeljerezsos2@gmail.com 605637101 Maribel
Horrendous fires have been raging around Malaga for the past few days, last report was that over 5,000 people had lost their homes. Spare a thought for these people, and for the animals refuges there – 112carlotagalgos is on standby to remove theirs, if the wind changes direction towards them…
For those of you who use Facebook, here are links to the Baas Galgo pages about the puppies
Sign the petition, they need 10,000 people. It’s raised by the friends of the Arca de Noe refuge in Albacete.
And here
Tigreton is 6 months old, found wandering the streets of a Spanish town, lost and helpless. His beautiful colouring and markings will make him a very handsome boy! Hidden away in a barn for fear of him being stolen for hunting, we need to get him a foster home quickly – better still a forever home so that this baby can have a life very different than the one he was probably destined for had he not escaped.
Tigreton will be vaccinated, chipped and sterilised by Levriers & Co as soon as he has a home to go to – it can’t be soon enough! He is affectionate and playful, he’s a puppy…. but this baby is in danger the longer he stays where he is!
Please call on :-(0033) 05 65 69 12 26 or email at :- doglinks.fr@gmail.com to save this beautiful young dog and give him the home he desperately deserves. Thank you.
Two appeals here for galgo puppies loose, ready for the hunters to grab them! These puppies are at Punta, Huelva. The adults are nearby but frightened but protective of their babies. Contact if anyone can help catch the adults; then the babies. valverdeanimal@valverdeanimal.es or moloquenoveas@hotmail.com
The second appeal – these three beauties are in Badajoz, Extremadura. Residents have complained about them being around (so why don’t they take them in?!)
They are about 2 months old, sociable, playful, loving. We need fosters for them urgently, to get them off the streets. Please contact. ro-cado@hotmail.com firstly o r xana.50@hotmail.es
At the beginning of the week Fermin Perez of Scooby went out to buy a new cement mixer; on his way back he picked up yet another abandoned galgo. And then a couple of days later, this small galgo puppy was found in a pinewood, abandoned! Cobie, of Scooby, says ‘I would like to talk in that wood to the person who left her all alone there, without water or food!! She is only skin and bones, dehydrated and malnourished, some 7 weeks old. Now she is ok after an infusion, she does not yet want to eat but the volunteers are going to buy and cook chicken, we hope she will eat it!
