Spring will soon be with us and thoughts turn to getting away from the miserable wet winter. Why not go to Spain and help in an animal shelter. Accommodation is provided and your help will be greatly appreciated. Here’s some suggestions.

Campaign – please write to the Spanish galgo hunting federations
Regular readers will remember that in March 2013 I published my ‘Letter to the Galgueros’. After the news of Fermin and the meetings with the FEG, I sent him a copy of my letter. He will be publishing it on the Scooby website and will also be forwarding it to his galguero contacts.
So I thought now would be a good time for us all to send a copy of the letter to the galgueros, since the mass abandonment and dumping in perreras is worse than ever and has not let up in the past 18 months. Figures now are certainly 120,000 galgos ‘disposed of’

Galga sick on the streets of Cuidad Real – now with Cuidad Animal
Cuidad Real is a city 200 km south of Madrid. A bad place to be a galgo. This little angel was rescued on Saturday in a village in Ciudad Real. For months it was fed by a person who tried to find an association to take it, without success. Difficult to understand when she was quite obviously sick.
She is now off the street with Loli, of Pedro Munoz refuge Cuidad Animal, where there are more than 150 dogs – plus others in her home. She was riddled with fleas which has now been treated and blood analysises are being done – it is possible she has scabies or mange.
She’s been named Esperanza.
Heartfelt thanks. (No paypal address for the moment.)

Give thought to Vulcano today – in the Toro de la Vega
Please today, think of brave Vulcano who will suffer unspeakable torture, pain, terror at the hands of screaming bloodlusters driving spears into his body from horseback – in the Toro de la Vega – despite tens of thousands of Spaniards marching to protest about it. One protester entered the bullring at Merida. See photos below of buses in Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Albacete to mention just 4 cities calling on people to go to Madrid on 14 September to join the march. Organised by PACMA.

Two lucky galgas – Portuguese Estrela and Spanish Fallera
Two nice stories – Many of you responded to the appeal to fund food and medical care for Estrela, a galga owned by an alcoholic Portuguese hunter, who had 3 puppies which he was intending to drown. Thanks to the efforts of Teresa Sousa and her team, Estrela was rescued, along with the puppies. One of the ladies who contributed towards the fees for Estrela has been accepted for her forever Mom. Last week Estrela arrived at my home for a temporary stay en route for the UK.
And the story of Fallera, a beautiful white galga which an old man used to walk past the Scooby Residencia Valladolid. He lived in an apartment and kept the galga in a garage. Cobie of Scooby eventually managed to persuade the old man to give Fallera to Scooby and she was recently rehomed in Italy.

Galga Gala – saved from a galguero murderer
Two pieces of news, which came up whilst I was stuck in the UK with hardly any computer contact.
Gala is a beautiful young galga found in a field in Andalucia with two deliberately badly broken legs – the left front and the left back – so she could not possibly get up and walk anywhere. Left by some bastard Spanish hunter to die a long and lingering and painful death. Luckily she was discovered and El Amparo took her to their vet where their vet operated on her to pin her legs back together again. Here are some before photos, and an incredible after video where she is walking with her legs splinted.

Toldeo, Albacete, Madrid – galgos urgently needing help!
Three galgos – one starving and desperately needing help.
This one is Magilla, a big male Greyhound, which was collected from street by the police, in poor condition all frightened, trembling, with bad pintilla, and it seems that they bleed the legs in the kennel! He needs toleave urgently, if anyone can help, in a town of Toledo. (This is where we’ll miss Baas Galgo and Leticia), contact: adopcionesasha@gmail.com
