IDOD Dog walk in France 17 04 2011 – David’s photos on the 6.5 km walk – well, it was a bit longer than that, but I thought if I said so, people wouldn’t walk it! About 30 dogs and owners walked this route along lanes and tracks around St Pardoux, where we live.

IDOD Dog Walk – walking lanes & tracks in France for rescued dogs in Spain
International Day of the Dog is now into its 6th year, always on the last Sunday in April. 2011 so happens to also be Easter Sunday, so I held my fundraising IDOD Dog Walk a week early on 17th April. The sun shone brightly on St Pardoux with over 50 dogs and their loving owners turning up for a leisurely stroll along the delightful lanes and tracks which surround this small village in Western France, where I live.

Risa, saved from Jerez killing station, now looking for her forever home
This beautiful galga is Risa, about 14 months old, taken to the Jerez killing station by her galguero in December 2010, to be euthanaised along with dozens of other dogs. She was rescued on Christmas Eve with 3 other galgos, one just 5 months old, by 112carlotagalgos. She is now in foster at my home in Western France, looking for her forever home.
She has her EU passport, is microchipped, vaccinated, sterilized, negative for Mediterranean diseases, and the results are awaited for her rabies antibodies blood test for possible adoption in Britain – although she is clear for adoption elsewhere in Europe now.

Galga Gaby, abandoned in Murcia, fostered in France, adopted in the UK
Here’s something to make you chuckle, amidst so many horror stories. I am fostering a galga rescued by Tina Solera of Los Infiernos Refuge in Murcia (by the way, click on the ‘hound’ logo on the right to donate desperately needed dog food to her) who is en route to her forever home in the UK. The galga is a terrible thief! What a surprise! But as she is larger than my Carmela and Sahara, she can reach more things.

French bastard dumps a neglected little dog in our courtyard in Deux-Sévres
I call the Spanish hunters bastards, but some of the French are bastards too, as are so many of the English at the moment. We went out on our horses yesterday – the first time since May, as we don’t ride during the summer, it’s too hot and there are too many flies. We returned to find that someone had dumped a little dog in our enclosed courtyard whilst we had been out! I guess he is a X Bichon Frisée – cute little dogs but their coats need daily attention. This one could never have had a comb or brush near him! I’ll post pix of what we cut off him.
