  • Galga Phoebe, saved from drowning, looking for foster or forever home

Phoebe 1 Tina 02 2010 250 Galgos are still being abandoned, even though it is now the Spanish hunting season. This bitch was rescued by an English couple, exhausted and in danger of drowning in a canal. She was literally on her last breath when they dragged her out. They think she was in the canal because farmers were shooting at her the day before. She was exhausted. Tina says, ‘The couple still have her in their home but need a new place for her. They wont take her in the refuge because she is out of the border and to be honest after all she has been through its better she doesnt come in anyway..’. She is about 1 year old, her body already scarred, as you can see in the photo.

If you can help with foster or forever home, please contact Tina, who will also be very grateful for donations towards her microchip, vaccinations, castration.

  • Galgo puppy Peritas, now Ulisses, living in Madrid

Do you remember the little puppy Peritas, saved by Tina Solera. He was rehomed in Madrid. Here is a delightful video of him. How I wish all galgo puppies could have such a wonderful life away from the horrors of life with a Spanish galguero.

  • Sofie, galga from Badajoz, facial rebuild a success! Off to America

Sofie pix 20 09 2010 250 You remember Sofie, the galga abandoned in Badajoz earlier in the year, whose lower jaw was brutally smashed by some sadistic person. We’ve followed her progress under the care of volunteer Silvia and her vet, as the galga had her jaw rebuilt. In another 2 weeks she will be winging her way across the Atlantic ocean to her forever home in America under the guardianship of GRIN. Read her story and see the latest amazing pictures of this survivor. Isn’t she beautiful?

  • Romeo, saved in April, in danger from a galguero, looking for his forever home.

Romeo 003 20 09 2010 250 Help, please, anyone in the Torre Pacheco, Murcia, area or anywhere. Tina has been seeking a forever home for handsome galgo Romeo since she rescued him in April. Today she was told that tomorrow he will be given to a hunter!! You can imagine her distress! Common with a lot of the volunteers in the refuges…..saving the galgos only for them to be stolen back for the hunters! Here’s her appeal

‘I currently have Romeo in my garden. If I didnt take him today then tomorrow he was leaving with a hunter… i couldnt let that happen. OH MY GOD, husband is going to kill me. So far he is great with Guapo and has been good as gold, out of the refuge he is calmer. he has no microchip, no vaccines and is castrated.

Please help me, I cant keep him but if he stays in the refuge tomorrow he will be with a galguero.’

UPDATE Silvia in Valencia rushed to the rescue, Romeo is now on his way to her. If you can adopt this stunning galgo, please contact her.

  • Pregnant podenca on a Spanish street – in danger of the hunters

CRIS 7 SEPT Charl 250 Yet another little lady, abandoned on the streets to survive, with a bellyful of pups! The refuges are full to overflowing, but it’s important to get this podenca off the streets before she has her babies. Hunting is about to start, and it’s a dangerous time for them all to be out and insecure.

The people who sent the plea for help for her cannot take her in as they already have several cases in the same position but they would finance her journey to another place if a foster home came up

  • The Plight of the Galgo – Spain must act to stop this!

Linda galga puppies Mairena 06 207 2010 300 Some months ago, a lot of photos of galgos in Mairena were circulating on the Internet, including Galgo News. The information I had been given was that this was a killing station. It has since come to light that Mairena is in fact a perrera, ‘Protectora de Animales Y Plantas de Sevilla, which has contracts with city councils of cities and villages in the area, to retrieve abandoned dogs from the streets. Hunters also take their dogs there when hunting has finished.

This galga (who has been named Linda) gave birth to 10 puppies a couple of days ago, and all of them have been taken to Mairena. What sick person can do this. Look at the conditions in which she lies exhausted.
