The Plight of the Galgo – Spain must act to stop this!

Linda galga puppies Mairena 06 207 2010 300 Some months ago, a lot of photos of galgos in Mairena were circulating on the Internet, including Galgo News. The information I had been given was that this was a killing station. It has since come to light that Mairena is in fact a perrera, ‘Protectora de Animales Y Plantas de Sevilla, which has contracts with city councils of cities and villages in the area, to retrieve abandoned dogs from the streets. Hunters also take their dogs there when hunting has finished.

This galga (who has been named Linda) gave birth to 10 puppies a couple of days ago, and all of them have been taken to Mairena. What sick person can do this. Look at the conditions in which she lies exhausted.

The information came from ArcaDeNoe, please contact anitapelillosalamar@hotmail.com
or peke_gades@hotmail.com if any of you can help in any way.

A further sickening side to the plight of the galgos is that there are people who claim to be helping the galgos, when in fact they are ‘trafficing’ in galgos and using them just to make money. It turns out the Mairena appeals were one such instance. This is now being investigated.

    Hi Jeannie
One of the problems is that regions of Spain are autonomous, which means that the regional councils can make their own laws. Another problem is that members of the regional councils, judges, police etc are highly likely to be hunters, and corrupt. Third problem is that the hunting and racing federations refuse to accept that they cause the problem in the first place. And NONE of them – being male – will take the blame! They also dont realise what a bad image it gives of Spain, when the majority of the Spanish people are lovely and want this annual horror to stop. But they are also afraid of reporting cases of abuse, because then the hunters or gitanos target them, their families, their homes…………its all explained in my book.
So we have to keep bombarding the government and hunting and racing federations with protest letters; Spanish associations have to keep demonstrating that nothing is done; and horror stories have to keep being reported in the media. As one leading campaigner in Spain said to me – a problem doesnt exist in Spain if it isnt reported in the media.
Thanks for commenting and caring. Lifes a bitch, isnt it, especially for this bitch and her puppies. In Mairena, will be starved before being killed, same with her puppies.
