22 January 2012 – as I write a rescue is being carried out in Murcia. Up to 70 galgos in a gypsy camp. The gitano (Spanish gypsy) with these dogs was denounced (see my book to explain a denuncia) and the authorities said the dogs would all be put down unless they were rescued. These dogs are in poor condition, some chained to walls….the gypsies are very hard on the galgos. Several people belonging to rescue associations and refuges are involved in this operation.

And yet another abandoned galga. Here’s the message just in.
‘Hello everybody, we’ve just been made aware of this case, it is a galga that is abandoned and lives lives badly in a house in ruins. For now we have food and water, but it would be necessary to find a foster home where she can recover little by little. She has a noble character, friendly and confident, not scared or running from people. Please, has anyone a little space for this galguilla for two or three weeks, please avisadnos, together we can change the future. Thank you very much for your attention. Regards. 4 month old galgo puppy – help Baas Galgo with her recovery
This is Marisol, the latest victim of cruelty and abandon taken in by the BaasGalgo Association. Weep with me for the suffering of this little creature and for the courage of Leticia who has her in her care.
‘Marisol is only four months old and already she is suffering from severe rickets, scabies, mange, malnutrition, bone problems, and to top it all she has a bad fever and her condition is critical. Marisol was found on the morning of the 9th of December in front of the entrance to the LIDL supermarket in Torrijos (Toledo).

Update on Jerez Galgos – yet more dumped every day! Curse the hunters!
All 15 of the first Jerez galgos were saved, to be immediately replaced by another 15. Everyone is overflowing with dogs, so only about half a dozen of these have been saved, and today Maribel reports another 14 have been dumped at the perrera for killing. It is just simply sickening. And the sad thing is that the more everyone who loves these dogs works to save them, the galgueros are laughing up their sleeves at the seemingly bottomless pit of foster homes and refuges willing to take them……….dump the dogs, let someone else sort the problem out!
There are young dogs, old dogs, bitches used for breeding, pregnant bitches, injured dogs – the hunters don’t give a damn. And they don’t seem to realise, or even care, that this all gives a negative impression of Andalucia.
Tonight our hearts bleed for those unable to be saved.

Lomas, Ulises and Jerez galgos – Silvia is their guardian angel in Valencia
This is Lomas, a handsome galgo picked up by Tina Solera. He has been to the vet, is now with Silvia in Valencia for treatment for filaria. He was full of ticks too, but the vet thinks, as he is muscular, that he has been running up until recently. He is in a foster home and, when the filaria test is negative, he will be looking for his forever home.
