In November I received a circular email from Humane Society International in the US appealing for donations to help a team help Street Dogs in Bhutan. So I wrote and asked them to support our fight for protection for the Spanish galgos and podencos. Here’s a copy of their reply, and my response to them. Greyhounds in Romania – boycot the sale and breeding – keep greyhounds safe
I regularly receive emails asking me to post appeals to highlight the stray dog problem in Greece and former Eastern Bloc countries like Romania. Whilst I’d like to protect every animal from mistreatment and suffering, my focus is on the plight of the galgos and podencos. I include greyhounds, as some of the problems facing them are also faced by the galgos.

UK Campaign to ban betting on dogs and greyhound racing
Last Monday after months of planning between LUSH and greyhound protection groups the ‘Don’t Bet On It’ campaign launched itself into UK High Streets and Shopping Malls and UK shoppers were greeted with this message nationwide. At midday on 18th October 2010 the campaign went live online and LUSH issued hundreds of press releases to the national media and at long last a major UK company endorsed our cause and were prepared to promote and support the campaign to end the betting on dogs and commercial greyhound racing.

The galgos in Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville are discussing Spain v Holland on Sunday, and which team they should support. I print below the conversation as it was sent to me.
‘Spain claim their first title after beating Germany 1-0 and our galgos already know.
Well, first of all, congratulations Spain! But the World Cup Final is Spain vs Holland and our galgos have the dilemma which national team they have to support!: “Guys, let’s see, and now? Red or Orange?”Thousands already living in the Netherlands for years: ” Orange, of course! I don’t come back!”
Those who have just arrived in Holland and even bark in spanish: “Pfff… I want to put down roots here, but my heart is still red…”
