Humane Society International – can we enlist their help?

In November I received a circular email from Humane Society International in the US appealing for donations to help a team help Street Dogs in Bhutan. So I wrote and asked them to support our fight for protection for the Spanish galgos and podencos. Here’s a copy of their reply, and my response to them. If you wish to add your voice to mine, please write to them.

Dear Beryl,

Thank you for your message to Humane Society International.

In the past, Humane Society International helped fund an organization that rescues and re-homes galgos. Currently, we educate visitors to our website about the abuse and abandonment of galgos and direct them to organizations that are working on this issue.

My reply

Bonjour

Thank you for your reply, I will post it on Galgo News, together with the weblinks. Can you please add Galgo News to your list of websites to read.

I appreciate that the International organisations get many appeals to help deal with animal abuse around the world, but the galgos and podencos desperately need someone like HSI to add strength to campaigns such as I organise on Galgo News, with letter-writing to the Spanish government, provincial governments (who are the real people who can change regional law in Spain) and the hunting and racing federations.

I’m afraid it’s not enough to just have a couple of web pages, we need help to put pressure on the above.

I’ve published a book this year, the first definitive guide to the Galgo Espanol, it’s been well received, a Spanish translation is due to be published in the New Year and a French translation is in progress. Would you please add a link to Galgo News so that people can buy it, it’s not available in bookshops.

The galgos really need your support.

Regards
