  • The Shame of Spain – what the tourists don’t see

Galgo with smashed feet 2 250Two very sickening stories, both from Andalucia region, a veritable hell hole for galgos and podencos. The first one was in Jaen, where a starved and dying galgo lay on the pavement whilst people walked by. No-one helped. It was too late by the time the person who took the photo found him.

The second story is from La Linea shelter, down near Gibralter, where Peter does amazing work helping the abandoned dogs. Peter has been visiting a place called Los Junquillos where there were reports of a totally neglected and skinny galgo. When Peter got there, he found that someone even had smashed his feet. The vet had to take out some bones from the feet and now the galgo is on medication for the pain and infection. How many barbaric people live in this little town..dear lord! La Linea

We have been advised that it has become dangerous as a huge piece is just waiting to come down and could destroy the house. As we use the house for injured dogs and dogs who have sterilisation opps this has become top priority.

We own a large hill that is attached to the refuge and we feel this would be the only way we could safely continue our work. To make this possible we need your help.

  • A letter to Senor Galguero…

To Senor Galguero, from Beryl Brennan

I woke up ANGRY this morning. And it’s YOUR fault.

    Why?

I’m a writer; I write for newspapers, magazines, websites. I’d like to write more books – I’ve got plenty of ideas, but not the time. I used to get paid for my writing. Now, writing about anything other than galgos and podencos has taken a very back seat, so I lay the drop in my income firmly at your door. Because I don’t earn any money writing about galgos and podencos, I do it because I must, for these innocent souls. That’s for starters.
