Here are some photos from the manifestation in Valladolid on 25th March, when the Spanish rose up in one voice to demand protection laws for their animals. There were reports in the media and on TV. If anyone has photos from the manifestations in other cities, please send them to me.

Christmas Holiday in Seville? Not for the galgos nor the volunteers.
This is the story behind the 130 galgos arriving at Scooby Medina during the course of December. Cobie and Vera explain.
In Andalucia in southern Spain, the Foundation Benjamin Mehnert association is very actively busy with saving galgos which are, in the eyes of their owners “worthless for hunting” and will, no matter what, get rid of them one way or another. Thousands are brought every year to the perreras, the killing stations, also called the waiting room for death, where their life is not worth one penny and so they are treated like that.

130 Galgos from Seville to Scooby Medina!
Eva has sent this appeal on behalf of Scooby Medina. They are taking 130 galgos in over the course of the next month and need all sorts of help. Here’s what she says.
‘Over the next few weeks we will be rescuing 130 galgos from Seville. We are asking you for your help in every way possible. We require volunteers, vet volunteers, food, medicine and monetary donations. And of course, in the end the most important thing is to get the dogs in the shelter adopted. If you can donate any of these items, please let us know. We are doing three transport this month so we would be able to pick up any donations that are collected.

Dr Guillermo Couto, researching greyhound and galgo diseases
Photo of Guillermo Couto, professor at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine, examines Cesca the greyhound on Oct. 11, while another greyhound, Aro, looks on.
Last year I posted about a survey being carried out by Ohio State University into diseases in galgos. I contributed my experience with my galga Karmel and pemphigus foliaceous. Here’s a story by Sarah Pfledderer about Dr Guillermo Couto, whose department carried out the research.

A few weeks ago they went picking up some 25 galgos, Last Wednesday another 37 of which you can see the pictures and tomorrow (Tuesday) another 25 are being picked up by Scooby. They come from everywhere, taken from the streets, from gypsy camps, from perreras, also from the bloody perrera from Mairena.

Scooby Holland hold a ScoobyDay!
Last weekend, Scooby Holland held their annual ScoobyDay and here’s the link to view the pictures.
It says that the day was a great succes, the weather was fine (with only a couple of showers) and there were lots of dogs. Furthermore there were shops with all kinds of things to buy for the dogs, for the benefit of Scooby and other Galgo organisations.
There was a joint walk in Soestduinen, a wonderful area where sighthounds can run free and Fermín Perez was present for a chat and if you wanted he would pose for a picture. There were also other volunteers from Scooby present for everybody to meet and talk to. So it was a wonderful happening. -
Galgo puppy saved from hanging in Spain – educating the young is one answer
Diana, an erstwhile fundraiser for Scooby Medina, has just returned from another trip to the centre. She has posted this story on her blog, about a young girl who rescued a galgo puppy from being hung. The low life Spaniard who was about to hang the dog is the type who would have killed the dog whatever its breed, and unfortunately there are tens of thousands of these men all over the world who would kill a dog without a second thought.
It’s nice to be able to post a positive story, illustrating how educating the younger generations in every country that animal cruelty is not acceptable is a positive step.
