  • A letter to Senor Galguero…

To Senor Galguero, from Beryl Brennan

I woke up ANGRY this morning. And it’s YOUR fault.

    Why?

I’m a writer; I write for newspapers, magazines, websites. I’d like to write more books – I’ve got plenty of ideas, but not the time. I used to get paid for my writing. Now, writing about anything other than galgos and podencos has taken a very back seat, so I lay the drop in my income firmly at your door. Because I don’t earn any money writing about galgos and podencos, I do it because I must, for these innocent souls. That’s for starters.

  • A bird’s eye view on Spain, animals and owners!

Prohitited_to_Abandon_250 PosterI’ve received this thought-provoking article on a view of life in Spain at the moment.

Spain is a country which is on now its knees. It’s gone from dictatorship, to good presidency and bringing a country up on form and being recognised as a good place to be. From there, the previous government to the current one (voted in December 2011) brought bad practices into its own when they took over. The country became run down, the people suffer, but as always, the politicians walk away with clean hands and a tidy pension until death. To compound the negative results of that government’s actions, Spain was hit with the Global crisis.

  • Madrid – sights to see

Madrid Aroa 2 250 3 2012White galgos were always considered the ultimate by the Spanish aristocracy, and here are two beauties in Madrid, needing forever homes. Kendra is stunning with her different coloured eyes, and little Aroa was found alone on the street! Here are their stories.

AROA – the police took Aroa and her little brother Arati off the street in a village near Madrid where they had been wandering for several days, looking for food. She is in foster, good in the house, with children, with other dogs and cats and, being only 5 months old, playful.

  • Murcia – 70 galgos need rescuing from a Spanish gypsy – send a letter to the Hunting Federation

70 galgos gypsy camp 250 21 1 201222 January 2012 – as I write a rescue is being carried out in Murcia. Up to 70 galgos in a gypsy camp. The gitano (Spanish gypsy) with these dogs was denounced (see my book to explain a denuncia) and the authorities said the dogs would all be put down unless they were rescued. These dogs are in poor condition, some chained to walls….the gypsies are very hard on the galgos. Several people belonging to rescue associations and refuges are involved in this operation.

  • Letter to the Prime Minister of Spain – join the campaign – Letter in Spanish

Please copy and send this letter to the Spanish government, provincial governments and Spanish embassies around the world. You will find the addresses in the links at the end of the letter. I realise you are all busy people, but it is important that we keep up the pressure on Spain to do something about the mass abandonment of hunting dogs every year.

I realise also that postage is expensive if you are sending a dozen letters but, again, it’s not a lot of money if we can help make a difference, and help the noble volunteers in Spain and the Spanish islands every year all year with the mass abandonment of dogs.
