• Galgos do Canicross

LSF canicross poster 400In April 2007 I joined a French galgo rescue association and for many years travelled regularly with their team into Spain to bring back to France galgos and podencos for foster and rehoming. In that time some members of the team have left to form their own rescue associations and over the years more and more people have become involved, to such an extent that it is more difficult now to find forever homes because there are so many galgos here. And sadly it is all too common to see posters and appeals for galgos and podencos who are lost! Here’s a sad example of a podenca lost on 30th June, without a collar.

On a lighter note, since its inception in 2008 Levriers sans Frontieres have homed 1,700 galgos and podencos rescued from Spain, and some of the galgos now take part in Canicross.

  • Galgo Espanol Espana – galgos needing help with kennel fees

GE Espana galgo 1 400Galgos with Galgo Espanol Espana waiting for forever homes.

Mayday! We’re looking for foster and adoption parents for some of our galgos!
There are currently several of our galgos who do not have the cost of kennels covered. Amore, Candela, Helen and Margarita! For Dante we received 30 euros and for Greta 40 euros.

The kennels of Amore and Dante are somewhat more expensive combined with Dante’s monthly treatment.

Although our Swiss partners do everything they can to find solutions, they don’t always arrive…

Right now the hunting season starts and we’ll start receiving appeals for galgos who which need our help and if we can’t cover the needs of what we have, we won’t be able to help others.

  • PETA – more action needed on the Pet Blood Bank Inc maltreated greyhounds

Further to the recent post about discarded greyhounds suffering inhumane treatment in a Texas canine blood bank, here is the reply from PETA and asking for further action.

    ACTION ALERT

    Dear Friend,

Thank you for acting in behalf of the approximately 150 perpetually penned greyhounds who neurotically spin in circles, jump up and down, cry out, and hide in old chemical tanks at The Pet Blood Bank, Inc., in Cherokee, Texas, where they’re farmed for blood products.

Thanks to your quick action, the kennel’s main distributor, Patterson Veterinary Supply, Inc., announced on Friday night that it had stopped doing business with The Pet Blood Bank.

  • Galgo Zeus in Portugal, waiting for a forever home.

Name: Zeus, Gender: M Breed: galgo Age: d-o-b: October 2015 Size: big (25kg, 70cm)

    Others: dewormed, vaccinated

    Story:

Zeus was found on the street. Not uncommon to find abandoned galgos after the hunting season. Probably those that did not perform well…. For some people the dogs are just instruments.
Zeus is calm, balanced, lovely and gentle. He is social with other dogs and friendly with people – he wags his tail a lot. He is good on the leash. Galgos make lovely family dogs.

Video and pix on this link. Contact Dogs of Portugal direct about him.
