Bloody Irish Greyhound Board!! (Bing translation)
Cherbourg, 27/10/2014. Alerted by the Irish Ferries shipping company, 11 Greyhounds were found dead by the Gendarmes Maritime of Cherbourg SPPP (maritime and port surveillance platoon) on board the vessel Oscar Wilde, 27th October 2014 around 2 pm. Crammed 2 in cages, in a truck from Rosslare (Ireland), 11 racing Greyhounds died suffocated during the 17 h crossing.
Veterinary services said death was by asphyxiation. No autopsy was performed.
Shaun recently wrote to me about Dog Rescue Holidays Cadiz, which developed from, as often happens if you live in Spain, rescuing abandoned dogs from the streets of Spain. Here he tells the story.
‘Over our 8 years here in Cádiz province we’ve picked up quite a few dogs from the streets and either rescued them ourselves or taken them to the local shelter and then, after seeing the great work they do up there, we decided to pitch in “at the weekends”. Hehe, this idea didn’t last long as no sooner had we started helping than we realised it simply had to be an everyday type of affair as there’s so much work to do.
Tuesday is action for greyhounds by the League of Cruel Sports. Read more here.

‘Training‘ galgos. Another method is to chain the galgos to the turnstile whilst it revolves. We all know that, with the exception of a few, galgueros are bred in hell with no feelings or compassion. With podencos they are tied in a metal harrow behind a motor vehicle.
Any of you with Youtube access, can you comment such as ‘animal abuse’.
The way animal rescue associations criticise each other really gets me angry! Here’s a post I wrote on my Save the Galgo facebook page.
On Saturday, 11th October 2014, I was pleased to be a part of the demonstration and publicity in the Trocadero, Paris, organised by Galgos Ethique Europe, illustrating to the general public the beautiful galgos who were there as ambassadors for their breed, and telling of the dreadful maltreatment they suffer in Spain at the hands of the galgueros and gitanos.
Photos from the Rassemblement at the Trocadero in Paris on 11 October 2014 – lots of galgos, some podencos (hurray – at last!); lots of banners, video of atrocities against the hounds; handing out leaflets; lots of people signing the UNESCO petition. And the sun shone all day.Great to meet Joelle Valois and Marion Rigaud of GEE and representatives from Levriers du Sud, L’Europe des Levriers and Galgos112 (from Barcelona)
