Two galga pups saved from Malaga perrera, now in the US thanks to GRIN
Nice story about two lucky galgo pups saved from the El Paraiso perrera at Malaga, now in the US. April Lamb, mentioned in the article, has been working hard with Danielle Hart to try and persuade National Geographic magazine to publicise the plight of the galgos. Join in the letter-writing campaign published yesterday.

Galga Vida, Amigos de Los Galgos appeals for help for her
I’m in the UK again for a week, so limited to work I can do on the computer – some posts I scheduled to publish whilst I am away. But this one is just in, from Nuria Blanco of Amigos de Los Galgos. I don’t have a photo, but you can see all on the weblink.
‘Please help save Vida, this poor young galgo has been in hospital for a few days already. She has lost one food and she has problems in all the other three feet. At the moment, it is impossible for her to walk.’

Planning a holiday – help the dogs in Spain – holidays for dog lovers
The daffodils are out, buds on the lilac tree, new shoots on the honeysuckle – Spring is on its way where I live in France. If you are thinking holidays – but as with so many people – including me – can’t afford to pay a lot, think about going to Spain and staying with a refuge or on a dog-lovers holiday and help the volunteers with the rescued dogs. What could be more enjoyable and more rewarding?!
Think about going to Scooby, they have hundreds and hundreds of dogs, plus other animals. Go and stay for a week or two and join the team. Contact Scooby. Or a dog-lovers holiday at Tara Casa in Murcia, where you can help dogs, destress, create a mosaic…what about a week in Malaga at finca 112carlotagalgos, help with the hounds always welcome…
Any other associations who’d like to be added to the list, please post below.

You can either copy, paste to your computer and print off and post, or send by email, addresses below. If you post, can you also enclose a sheet of photos of badly injured galgos, to illustrate the horror they suffer.

Scooby Medina to the Galgo Rescue
A couple of weeks ago, 40 galgos arrived at Scooby Medina from Seville. Next week they are taking in 140 – yes, 140 – galgos from all over Spain. This is a message from Scooby’s President, Fermìn Pérez Martìn:
Hello to everybody:
I am writing to all of you because we are receiving a huge amount of pleas of help from everywhere for taking galgos from perreras all over Spain and I would like to count on you with your support financially and taking dog, you know that without all of you we will not be able to do it, we have the space and you have the rest so together we are a winning team, waiting for your answer. Fermin

ADANA, Badajoz, Spain – galgo lucky to be alive
ADANA have rescued this badly injured galgo, suffering multiple bites – particularly to his testicles – and a torn neck. He also has a recent scar about 2cm wide which runs round the neck. The new neck wound is very deep to such an extent that you can see they veins. The tear is about 3cm long. To have survived such horrendous injuries – cause by being bait in a dog fight, or possibly also having been hung and released means this boy has a very strong survivor instinct. He has been named River. He’s in Badajoz, a particular hell hole for galgos.
So, ADANA is appealing for help to pay the vet fees to help River on the road to recovery.
You can make donations through their bank account or by Paypal Donations on the button on their website. If you click on the Union Jack top right hand corner of the homepage, you can read their news in English.WARNING – Upsetting photos

Advice on donating to appeals
Over the years of my involvement with the plight of the galgos and podencos – and dozens of other deserving dogs in Spain – I receive many appeals each week to raise funds to help refuges and in particular money for vet fees for badly injured/sick dogs. I’ve come across one or two people who I subsequently discovered were appealing for money for a dog which they in fact did not have and had no links to! So I try to only post appeals on behalf of associations, refuges and individual who I know and who are established.
Vivienne Wharton of ACTIN has written this article on the subject, which contains some very good advice.

Galgo Ed in Murcia – can you help
Ed, the galgo in the front of the picture, has Erlichia AND Leishmania, so he was very lucky to have been picked up when he was found wandering around a village with Elsa the other Galga in the photo. He is being treated firstly for the Erlichia which has had this handsome guy lying in his bed over the weekend, eating ok but sleeping a lot and obviously feeling quite rough.. .and on top of all that he only has one ‘testicle’ AND his tail doesn’t work, as in ‘wag’, So WHEN all the medication has finished in about a month, he will also be castrated, which will be a bigger op than normal for a castration. He will have an xray on his back end to see if there is any damage or just some inflamation which is causing it.
If you can help in anyway toward the vetenary care and medication it would be greatly appreciated. either to PayPal roberta-brown@sky.com or sherliebradley@yahoo.co.uk, collecting on behalf of AWSM. State it is for Ed. Thank you
