  • Scooby Medina and Levriers en Danger – donate to the Tick treatment

    Levriers en Danger have launched an appeal for donations to pay for tick treatment for dogs in Scooby Medina refuge. LED have a veterinary friend who will supply them with a large quanity of tick treatment at a specially reduced price.

    The team leave on 16 September, returning on 20th September. If you can help with a donation, visit their website LED for bank transfer details or payment by Paypal, or send donations direct to Scooby

    There are over 600 dogs in the refuge, Scooby Medina desperately need all the help they can get.

  • Animal Awareness Week 2009 – Sponsored walk for PAWS in Mojacar

    World_animal_logoThe first week in October is Animal Awareness Week, as well as World Animal Day. Events were held in 66 countries last year.

    PAWS have organised a Sponsored Dog Walk and are looking for as many people as possible to take part, or get sponsorship – 10 euros per person would be a good start. They’ve also got a Fashion Show on 10th October, both events are in Mojacar. For all details, check their website.

  • Take a holiday – work as a volunteer in a Spanish animal shelter

    On my trips to Spain, it never ceases to amaze me at the dedication of the wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly on behalf of the abandoned dogs and cats of Spain and the Spanish islands. And I am always impressed by the good condition of the animals (obviously counting out those just rescued or with medical problems and needing treatment), and the dogs are generally so happy. Anything has to be better than life on the streets or at the hands of uncaring owners.

  • Near Jumilla – abandoned – Old Galgo needs rescuing from life on the streets –

    Galgo jumilla 300How long has this poor old boy been wandering? It’s the beginning of September, the last hunting season finished 7 months ago and the next one is about to begin. And still throughout the summer the volunteers have been working to take galgos off the streets.

    This old boy is nervous but since he appeared in this neighbourhood, 6km from Jumilla, on 25th August, food and water have been left out for him. Now these people are going away on holiday, who will take in this galgo? He has to have wet food because he cannot chew. He is very tired, does not go far. He is in grave danger of being taken by the gypsies again, suffering mistreatment.

    Can anyone take him in?

  • Time to Take Action – Join the Fight for the Animals of Catalonia

    I know this isn’t about galgos and podencos, but my other lifelong passion is horses, I have ridden most of my life and still have 2 of my horses here with me in France. Please take the time to put a message on the WSPA website to protest about bullfighting in Catalonia, to protect both the bulls and the horses used by these vile men in the name of ‘entertainment and sport’. The animals don’t see it like that!

  • Galga Cristal in Spain – update – looking for a home abroad

    CRISTAL&FRIENDS 250Isabel from the ASPAP shelter has sent an update on Cristal’s condition.

    ‘Well, I’m sending you photos of Cristal with her 2 friends, Wican and Grison, just looking round the door. When we enter into the fenced area where they live, they go into their house and continue to look round the corner of their door, the 3 heads together. When we hold out our hand to stoke her, they smell us and lick our hands, but the 3 are the same in their fear.

  • Gisela the brave – has passed away across the rainbow bridge.

    Just received from Gail, of Noah’s Arc refuge.

    ‘I am afraid the blood test showed that the Pancreas was closing down and unable to absorb any nutrients. The diarrhoea has returned. Last evening she had a good day but went downhill again during the night. She also had no strength in her back legs and that was also getting worse.

    I am so sorry but she crossed over this morning peacefully. She will be able to run and play now and love.’
