Galgo Rescue International Network (GRIN) recently raised the funds to fly out a galgo and a podenco to adoptants in the US. The dogs were rescued by Galgos del Sol in Murcia, and accompanied on their flight by Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos. Here’s a pic of the dogs arriving at the airport with the adoptants of the podenco. See more
photos below.
Also happily homed in the UK is Greta, again rescued by the team of Galgos del Sol and 112carlotagalgos. Greta was so terrified, she had to be darted to catch her, and then she would not walk, she had to be carried. Over the months with Charl & Dioni and family working with her, plus being fostered in my home with my galgos and podenco, she has developed into an affectionate loving dog, who enjoys walking our meadows. She is now enjoying life with two more galgos, 5 minutes’ walk from Bournemouth beach in the UK.
Remember Bracken? He was rescued by Galgos del Sol, injured, from outside a supermarket. We fostered him until his pet passport allowed him entry into the UK and took him to his forever home last September. Sadly the lady of the house had a life threatening accident and the consultant advised the two greyhounds they had adopted during the year be rehomed. Needless to say, the couple are heartbroken, but comforted by the fact that Bracken is now back in a familiar home where he will stay to the end of his life. And the greyhound is going back to his fosterer also, who is adopting him. (Here’s Bracken lying with Carmela on the rug in front of our woodburning stove)
And if you have been following appeals about three podencos on Podenco Post, I can report that the 4 month old pup abandoned and starving in Seville is now safe in the home of her rescuer and will be travelling to a forever home in Murcia. Iggy Podenco has been adopted by an English couple also in Murcia (thank you to Animal Support Welfare Murcia) and another English couple have applied to adopt Bella.
And to add to the problems for stray dogs. The SPA (Societe Protection Animales) in Poitiers, central France, have now had land on which stand 25 kennels housing 60 dogs waiting for forever homes reclaimed by Poitiers City Council, to develop a railroad! Most of the dogs are labradors, or lab X, there are some beagles, an Old English Setter (with a white/black coat), staffie, Breton spaniel, Jack Russell….they will be euthanaised if space cannot be found for them anywhere.
