Look at the faces of these people. They are the Junta in Andalucia. They have just passed a law allowing galgos to be run beside motorbikes, to train them for galgo racing! Below is a letter which El Refugio Escuela have put together. Please copy it and email to the address given. I have asked for a postal address too, as we all know that email addresses can be blocked.

Estimada Señora

Hace unos días leímos con incredulidad y horror que tras la reunión que mantuvo el 1 de septiembre con los representantes de los galgueros y con el señor Antonio Romero, su consejería se comprometía a impulsar institucionalmente el “deporte” galguero.

Al parecer estas muestras de apoyo se concretarían en facilitar y “legalizar” el entrenamiento de galgos con vehículos a motor. Es decir, se trataría de que el SEPRONA no impidiera (como lo hace hasta la fecha) la tortura de estos animales cuando son arrastrados por vehículos 4×4 y por motocicletas hasta la extenuación.

Asociaciones, refugios, protectoras y particulares, llevamos muchos años luchando por el bienestar de unos animales a los que en nuestra comunidad se les considera poco más que herramientas. Y cuando parece que vamos avanzando en la concienciación y en el respeto por estos animales, en el trato que merecen, su consejería, supuestamente, está tratando de potenciar una actividad que provoca cada año y tras la temporada de caza, miles de víctimas.

Cuando desde todos los rincones de Europa se clama por la prohibición de la caza con galgo; cuando hoy más que nunca todos los países de la Unión Europea son conscientes y se horrorizan con el trato que en España damos a nuestros galgos; cuando las asociaciones europeas, a través de las cuales los galgos huyen de nuestro país, crecen sin parar; su consejería, supuestamente, está decidida a apoyar una actividad cruel, brutal y mortal. En lugar de, y dada la supuesta ideología progresista con la que dicen comulgar, apoyar e impulsar el trabajo de quienes luchan denodadamente por los más débiles.

Vamos a servirnos de la fuerza de las redes sociales en Internet (Facebook, Twitter, Tuenti, etc.) para que el mundo esté atento al trato que piensa dar a partir de ahora y en el futuro (hasta las próximas elecciones autonómicas) a los galgos, la Junta de Andalucía.

En todo caso, Consejera, contamos aún con la esperanza de que este supuesto impulso a la actividad galguera no sea más que una campaña publicitaria de la FAG y que el sentido común se imponga; y que la sensibilidad del partido progresista al que Vd. pertenece impulse a su consejería a poner fin de una vez a un “deporte”, que no lo es en ningún otro país de la Unión Europea salvo el nuestro.

El Refugio Escuela in Madrid have written this letter adressed to the Junta de Andalucia (Spain), the government of Andalucia, who promised in a meeting, held on the 1st of September together with SEPRONA (Guardia Civil) and the Club Nacional del Galgo Espanol and the Andalucian Federation of Galgos, to cooperate in legislation for a training method used by the galgueros and in which they tie their dogs to cars (4 X 4 drives) tractors and motorcycles to drag them that way, either the galgos want (or can) or not.

Until now, the galgueros were fined for this way of training their dogs by the SEPRONA with fines from at least 600 Euros per violation but the hunting associations are now trying to make a deal with the police and we all have to try to avoid that by protesting against it! Without this training method, these dogs already suffer more than they deserve! Because legally training like this will cause even more suffering for the Galgos, numerous injuries, broken bones, you name it!

Please send this mail to the Consejeria of Andalucia, of which you find the email adress below, and send it to as many people and organisations as possible, so that the responsible people in Andalucia know that the whole of Europe, even better, the whole world, is watching them and that we absolutely not agree with this legislation from an until now strict forbidden method of training and not for nothing: this training method is very cruel, brutal and deadly and will lead to many more innocent victims.

The galgos now need your help desperately, they can’t send an email, do it for them! Help them!

Apparently these samples of support would be specific in facilitating and “legalizing” the training of greyhounds with motorised vehicles. That is to say, it would mean that SEPRONA would not prevent (as they do upto this date) the torture of these animals when they are dragged by 4×4 vehicles and motorbikes until debilitation.

Associations, refuges, protectors and individuals, have been fighting for many years for the well-being of animals which in our community ,are considered little more than tools. And when it seems that we are advancing in the awareness and gaining respect for these animals, in the treatment that they deserve, your council, apparently, is trying to potentialize an activity that causes every year and after the season of hunting, thousands of victims.

When the prohibition of hunting with galgos is cried out from all the corners of Europe , when today more than ever, all the countries of the European Union are conscious and horrified with the treatment that we give our galgos in Spain, when the European associations, that make it possible for our galgos to flee from our country, grow without stopping, your council supposedly, is determined to support a cruel, brutal and mortal activity. Instead of, and given the supposed progressive ideology with which they say to agree, to support and to impel the work of those who fight very indefatigably by the weakest.

We are going use the force of the social networks in Internet (Facebook, Twitter, Tuenti, etc.) so that the world is attentive and knows the way the Junta de Andalucia plans to treat the greyhounds , now and in the future (until the next autonomic elections).

In any case, , we still have hope that this supposed impulse to this activity is no more than an advertising campaign of the FAG and that common sense will prevail and that the sensitivity of the progressive party to which you belong to, impels to its council to end at once a “sport”, that is not a “sport” in any other country of the European Union except for ours.
