Update on the galgo dumped in a rubbish bin. ‘It is a female galga, and is very serious, especially from a strong blow to the head but still alive. We are waiting to see how it evolves and will soon need a CT scan (scanner) of the head. She is now hospitalized at a veterinary clinic. Please, if you know who wants to help with veterinary expenses let us know, because in our humble association we can do no more, but the cases that come to us are so desperate that we can not ignore them and look the other way. A hug and thank you very much for your interest.’

Thank you for the update on this tragic galga – have sent a small donation to help with the vet fees. Please let us have further updates on her – thank you!
Donation sent – what amazing strength of will this little galga has to keep fighting, here’s hoping for the outcome she deserves.
We, at El Albergue, would like to thank everyone that has been moved by Esperanza´s story. It is tragic, but by no means an isolated event in Spain. Unfortunately, most of the galgos (and other dogs used for hunting) are disposed of in the middle of nowhere so no one can save them. Whoever did this to Esperanza had a lot of nerve to threw her out like that in a residential area and tha´s the only reason why she is still alive.
We just hope that all her suffering won´t be in vain. We have scheduled an appointment for a CT scan tomorrow and we sincerely hope that we´ll get some good news to share with all the wonderful people who are worried about Esperanza and wish her the best. Thanks again on behalf of Esperanza and everyone at El Albergue!

Thank you for your comments, which really are valued. It is good to get the feelings of the volunteers who work at the front line of galgo and podenco rescue – as well as all the other poor abandoned dogs. We all keep our fingers crossed for Esperanza, the work you are all doing, and the marvellous vet team you have to help you. Hopefully people will donate to help pay the vet fees to help this poor soul back to life again. Her suffering is unimagineable. We look forward to your updates.

Esperanza’s surgery has finished. She is alive but she needs intensive care.
Surgery has not been easy. Vets put needles and surgical cement to rebuilt her broken vertebra. There is reserved prognosis, at least, until a couple of days, because her life is still in danger. Her health condition is delicate.
If everything is OK, a new period of ten days will start. During these days we will have to evaluate her progress everyday and probably she will need another CT scan so we’ll be able to see is her medulla is been recovered.
We would like to thank you all for the good wishes you’ve sent to Esperanza. We are pretty sure it has helped her so much. We would also like to mention Galgos 112, because without their help we wouldn’t be able to cover all the expenses from Esperanza´s treatment, and everybody else who has made a donation, and of course also to Esperanza’s veterinary team.
To all of you, thank you very much. We’ll keep you updated about Esperanza’s progress.
