Gypsy galgos – finding a safe haven at 112carlotagalgos

112carlotagalgos was recently asked to take 8 galgos in a poor state from a gypsy camp. There were also podencos there, which Bev Farmer in Murcia has taken in. Charl’s thoughts as she prepared the night before husband Dioni set off to collect the galgos. Duke, to whom she refers, was saved by Portugal Dog Rescue and is with Charl for rehabilitation and learning that life can be good.

‘As the sounds play on the radio to REM everybody hurts I bury my head in Duke’s soft fur. Ohhh how I just adore this galgo. I could cuddle up all night long with the galgo who’s stolen my heart. Holding on for freedom just as the song says I feel broken inside.

Above the orchard Dioni prepares to take his parents home to the village where galga Rosie came from. His village. Progress is small.. but for me in that small time town of his parents it feels massive. A hunting zone .. chilled to the bone. No more for Rosie.. thank God for that. And for my sister in law Rosa to whom I owe my eternal thanks for not foresaking Rosie. Dioni preps the van for the journey on the way home from Ciudad Real to pick up the ten dogs from the gypsy camp.’

You can see the photos of the gypsy galgos now on this link, after a couple of weeks in the finca. If you can help with the enormous vet fees, a couple of the galgos had to stay at the vet clinic and others had to go into a residencia, please donate on this link.

I have had a look at the gypsy galgos. There is a beautiful older girl that Charl has rescued. She must have had a hard life, at least she is safe now. I will be able to donate something more in February for Charl.
