Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos received an urgent call today from a young woman in a village near Cadiz where she found this young galga with an horrendous back wound. The girl is staying with the galga whilst Charl organises for her to go straight to her vet in Malaga. Here’s what Charl says.
‘The rescue train has begun. Confirmed a female but bleeding a lot. So we have been in touch with a contact in Cadiz who has offered to go quickly and pick her up and bring her. We will meet up and head to the clinic. This is a nasty nasty wound which doesn’t look too old but in 40 degree heat infection and fever can set in very quickly. The girl who caught her tells me shes plagued with flies naturally and cooked flesh is not an easy thing to heal in this heat. So a little blind on whats coming in but we will do our absolute best.
If there is anyway at all that you can help and support us in this case I would be so very grateful. Costs are high on what we do, and time is of the essence always. I find it so hard to ask for help.. so hard for me. She must be exhausted to have been caught so easily. Princess girl hold on my love.. hold on.’

UPDATE – she’s been named Kiara, is now with vet Paco and his team in Malaga. Here’s what Charl says. ‘Many people ask me “how do you not feel anger?”
I focus on the good in order to save these souls.
Today I walk away from the clinic in anger.. raging. Torn inside I could scream. Crying from the tops of my lungs and bellowing from the highest mountain.
I reserved thought on “just how” this has been done until I saw for myself. This wound has been inflicted by some sort of axe. It runs so deep. So clean a line.. Kiara.. you will shine one day and see clearly.
Shes in a state of shock and sways. Preparing her for surgery I am absolutely beside myself.
I swear… I wouldn’t even need a minute with the culprit to bring him to justice.
For now.. I leave her in good hands. Return home and I could cry. Struggling to contain my tears at her suffering.. we are all stunned.’
You know, just when you think that it can’t get any worse….before I finished reading this I though it looked something like an axe wound. Poor, poor dog. What a revolting excuse for a human being to do this to an innocent creature. Yet again, Charl will step in to pick up the pieces. Bless her for all that she does and yes, I will donate. Thinking about this poor girl, Kiara and hoping that she recovers.
14/8 Charlotte del Rio updated her status.: “Last night Kiara is resting.
Shes made it through so far. Shes come through surgery the injury very severe. Was extremely extremely close to the vertabrae. Theres tremendous muscular damage. Tendon and ligament damage. The tail Paco feels Kiara will have lost all feeling to. This will be a hinderance if so. She may in time have to have her tail amputated. However this will be looked at as she improves. At this moment shes a drain in place and the most important for Kiara right now is protection against infection. All care that can be medically be done is being done for her.
Tomorrow is another day and she will remain in the clinic under observations as she must be controlled and with pain relief. Its a miracle her vertabrae wasnt touched. Shed of been left in a pool of blood otherwise.
So for tonight all that could have been done has been done. Tomorrow is a new day and we pray she will get through the night. Pain controlled.. and love high.
Kiara is a clean case for hirudotherapy in my opinion. Asap…
Order some medicinal leeches from the nearest leech farm and put them next to the wound.
They help drain the venous blood and this improves the blood flow in the area enormously. Then the wound heals faster and without complications.
Furthermore the leech injects a cocktail of beneficial substances into the tissue, among others painkiller and some substances that act like antibiotics.
Absolutely worth trying!
