Volunteering at Pepis Dog Refuge – a story

Anpana Alan 400 6 2014
Got some holiday to spare; time at a weekend to run a monthly car boot stall….anything to help Jane and Alan Brian at Pepis.  Here’s a message from a recent volunteer, Holly,.

‘A big shout out to Jane Brian and Alan who run Pepis Refuge in Pedrera for welcoming me into their doggie family as a volunteer for the past two weeks! It was an amazing and eye opening experience 10/10 recommend to anyone who is a dog lover and wanting to do some good in the world. Jane and Alan are an amazing couple who work so hard everyday to care for all of their dogs and struggle against the cruelty that is inflicted on the dogs by the Spanish and their culture. They need SO MUCH help. If you want to volunteer or donate please contact Pepis Refuge, they would appreciate any help you can give!!’

Galgos currently for adoption at Pepis.

I fully agree with the words above. I went out to Pepis for the first time this Easter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. it was great meeting all the dogs especially the galgos. Jane and Alan have so much experience to share with their volunteers. They take such care over each dog and it is lovely to see the dogs respond to them with love. There is so much work to do though – cleaning bowls, repair work, gardening work. Whatever a volunteer does frees Jane and Alan to spend more times getting the dogs to the vets and just taking care of the dogs that are on daily medication and need extra help.
If you cannot go out there the other ways are to donate on line, or bake cakes, sell things on ebay – as the saying goes “every little bit helps” one day you may be in a position to adopt. Contact Jane and she can give you the information you need to go there – I was not sorry I am planning a return trip next year!
