  • Urgent – Save the galgos of Baeza refuge, Jaen, from the galgo thieves!

Baeza Beethoven 250 7 2012We’re into July, still galgos arriving on in the perreras, but the danger is also in the refuges, many unmanned at night, when the Spanish gypsies and hunters look around to see what galgos are in there which they could steal for the next hunting season. They have no scruples – these dogs are just a tool.

Baeza refuge in Jaen is under pressure, there are a few of their galgos which are vulnerable to be stolen. They urgently need associations to take these galgos to safety, one a puppy of 5 months, rescued from the local dog pound where they kill the dogs. If they can move these hounds to safety, they can take some more from the Resur dog pound. Here are their details, all very young dogs..

  • Galgo in France urgently needs a true forever home

I get very cross when people adopt a galgo or podenco, and then the dog turns up in an SPA refuge – as is the case at the moment with a podenca, and also now this black galgo which is on Le Boin Coin. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a website where you can sell virtually anything in France!

Here’s the link, if anyone can save him, please, please…..saved out of Spain, now under threat in France! Here are the details in English.

  • URGENT – special adoption home needed for Jaen galgo Voyka with Wobbler Syndrome

You may remember earlier in the year I posted the story of Voyka a young galgo found abandoned, who had co-ordination problems with walking, possibly as a result of a blow to the head. This is an urgent appeal for an adoption for him, to save him going back to the kennels. There was an adoption application but, after extensive research, it was not deemed the right home for him. Because of his physical problems, he needs a really special home, with another dog, where his disability will not cause a problem. This is the report from Lourdes, who has him in her care.

  • Help save 3 galgos – Dutch association appeals for your vote

    Request received from Holland.

‘We currently run an action for galgos on this link. Sorry for the Dutch partJ But please let me explain. Every dog that reaches 50 likes will be brought to Holland and adopted by a family. We as a site take all the costs for that.’

You can vote if you have a Facebook page, just click on the box below the dog’s photo. If you don’t have an Fb page, I’m afraid you can’t vote. I’ve explained that many of my readers don’t want Facebook pages so the dogs will lose out on many votes.

UPDATE – the 3 dogs are safe and now on their way to Holland and forever homes with The Greyhound Foundation.

  • Hazards of dog rescue!

Had an interesting evening last night, whilst trying to rescue an abandoned young dog, in the next village to where I live in France. The female ‘owner’ arrived, became aggressive, punched me in the face and threw a very heavy metal object at me – which luckily missed – but all that was because I was taking pix of her!! She didn’t get my camera though! Sadly, she grabbed the dog, dumped him in her car and drove off fast.
