  • Urgent appeal – help take these podencos from France to the UK

Podencos1 Pro Galgo 05 2010 250 Mo Swatek of Pro Galgo has sent out this urgent appeal. Please help, either with transporting these Podenco Canarios from France to the UK, or donating towards the cost. Here’s what Mo says.

‘we need help to take our quarantaine podencos over the Channel from northern France to the UK, and also we still need money to cover the expenses of the preparation and the trip. We had not one single sponsor for our dogs this time – the crisis is hitting the animal world very hard.’

You can contact Mo on the link, both with offers of help and donations.

  • Galgueros deny hanging dogs – Lies, here’s the proof the Spanish hunters hang their dogs!

Starving galgo Seville Galgos112 05 2010 300 Look carefully at Polo; he was found on 28th April 2010 wandering the streets of a town near Seville. Look carefully at his neck! He is a survivor of hanging! For whatever sickening, senseless, stupid reason, this poor galgo had been hung. Presumably his weight broke the line, or he would be dead by now. I cannot believe people walked on by and ignored this poor dog!

Galgos112 tell the story of his rescue.

  • ‘A Noble Heart’ – a tale of Milly, a survivor of the annual Spanish galgo holocaust

Milly - A Noble Heart 170 Elisabeth Janssen is Dutch and passionate about galgos. Her companion was Milly, another survivor of the Spanish holocaust, who was taken to safety in a shelter in Holland, from where Elisabeth adopted her. When Milly became very ill and had to be put to sleep, Elisabeth decided to write a book about her adored galga. At the moment, it is only available, print to order, in Dutch, but we are working together on an English translation. ‘A Noble Heart’ is a captivating book

  • Update on Sofie – suffering as a result of unnecessary cruelty by a man in Badajoz – hell hole for galgos

Sofie mouth 03 05 2010 250 This is what Silvia says. ‘Sofie is more active, she wants to eat by herself, and can manage it but, because the iron rod holding her lower jaw in place gets dirty, which could cause infection in her jaw, the vet has decided to feed her via her neck again. More trustful and sweet,Sofie is waiting for another operation; she needs a bone in the jaw which the vet will take from her ribs.’

What an amazingly brave galga, and what an amazing vet to be able to do all this work on her. But how tragic that it was completely unnecessary, if the b…..d who kicked her in the mouth had, instead, taken her to a shelter and place of safety.

Please donate towards the next operation, even just a small amount will be appreciated very much.

  • Update on Sofie – galga brutally kicked in the mouth on the streets of Spain

Update on Sofie – Silvia reports that on 2nd May, after two operations to repair her broken jaw, Sofie managed to drink on her own, and also ate a special dog food Recovery which she was fed by the vet! She even managed some ham. What great news! To donate towards the large vet bill for all this care, please contact Silvia.

  • Urgent Appeal for Help – Anyone flying out of Madrid before the 15th May?

    Hello, Everyone!

First, I’d like to thank you all for your support — we’ve already done a lot of good this year, and we currently have a group of volunteers in Spain working at Scooby Medina! Unfortunately, they’re already bringing back as many dogs as they can, and there’s a sweet Galga named Angie that we’re trying to get back to the States as well.

We’re hoping that one of you might know someone who’s flying out of Madrid before May 15th who’d be willing to help get Angie here! We’ll take care of the costs, all arrangements after the flight lands, and any pre-flight arrangements.

If you know of anyone, please let us know as soon as possible!

Thanks so much! Best, Chris GRIN

  • Galgo Sperm Bank in Zamora!

Latest news announced by the Galgo Association of Castilla y Leon is the creation of a galgo sperm bank in Zamora. They say ‘the aim is to protect the species (!) and collect semen from the best dogs’. Whilst I understand the principle behind the idea – to improve the breed – they would do better to deal with controlling the indiscriminate breeding and annual abandonment of galgos, such as is highlighted in my book. If you haven’t already done so, write to them at http://www.galgosfcyl.com. A letter in Spanish is on this link.

  • Barajas – saved from the Spanish streets – handsome podenco needs a forever home

  • Luna, survivor of the Jaen killing station – happy in her new home

Luna 2 a Jaen galga 04 2010 250 Three galgas and a podenca, all in a cell on death row in the Jaen killing station at the end of 2009. All were rescued; this is Luna, who loves the daughter of her adoptants. The family says they play together and Luna is so sweet with the baby. Now she is healthy and step by step she’s more trustful. Now she has the life that she deserves.

Angie was another of the 3 galgas saved, is now well and desperately seeking a home like this, or even a foster home while she recovers her health and strength after veterinary care.

  • Update on Sofie – galga kicked in the mouth

Sofie second operation 250 This is the latest news on Sofie, the abandoned galga who was viciously kicked in the mouth. She had a second operation yesterday.

Silvia reports ‘Sofie is little bit better, the vet is feeding her intravenously through the neck, there is no other way. Her mouth is much better, the tongue has changed in two days and is not now bleeding. The jaw has necrosis but not so much as the vet thought, it is in the vascularizada ( I hope you understand I don’t know the word in english) zone and it regenerates very well. The infection is better also.’

Fight on, brave galga, and thank you Silvia and the team for saving her.

Donations towards the vets fees to Telma of Galgo Rescue or Silvia direct.
