  • Protectora Scooby – saving galgos from the Halloween House of Horror

From Fermin Perez at Protectora Scooby.

One of our most harrowing rescue missions in a long time was at Halloween on 31 October. We received a call from a hunter who was giving up hunting and wanted his 9 galgos to come into Scooby’s care. We drove in the pouring rain to the address we were given. The circumstances the dogs were kept in were some of the most horrific I’ve seen in many years. The conditions were absolutely squalid: Debris, filth, rats and an unbearable stench. The galgos themselves were not in bad shape. They needed vet care, castrating/ spaying and rehab. (more…)

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – another unwanted galga now safe

    From Sandy Galgoslover

Recently we received a call about this girl. Unwanted… “no longer useful”… words no animal should ever have to hear. You can imagine the rest.

This sweet soul lives with a hunter. She has given her whole life: worked, obeyed, never complained. She endured humiliation, swallowed disappointment, and never understood why love for her had to be so scarce. (more…)

    From Galgos 112

A friend of our veterinarian Montse de Linares, knowledgeable of the work we do in Galgos112, has contacted us because not the police of a town of Jaén (no matter which, since It’s the usual tonic) and no one listened to him to pick up this poor being, with one leg completely destroyed and another broken as well. Berto as we’ve called him was lying near a place where people sometimes pass by on bikes and that was his luck…

  • Galgo Rescue Almeria – more unwanted galgos arrive

From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.  Helping animals in need never ends.

A few days ago, we received another cry for help—two galgos desperately needed help. so we  drove to pick them up. Their owner told us that he and his wife were struggling with serious health issues and could no longer care for them.  At first glance, these two sweethearts seem fine: calm, friendly, grateful. But they need medical care before they can start their new lives. Next week, they’ll have a vet checkup.
That same week, two other galgo girls were dumped next to our rescue center — alone, confused, abandoned. It remains incomprehensible why asking for help is so difficult… Asking for help is free, and it can save lives.

  • San Javier, Murcia – galgo puppies abandoned….

    From Plataforma NAC
The abandonment of puppies; innocent victims of a cycle of exploitation and oblivion.
Galguero was giving them away to hunters at 4 weeks old. Time to save these four terrified little ones. How will that poor mother be?
Abandonment is an act of cruelty, and in the world of greyhounds and hunting dogs, it knows no compassion. Those no longer suitable for hunting or racing are discarded, but the tragedy becomes even deeper and heartbreaking when discardment falls on the most defenseless beings: puppies.  All 4 safe at Galgos del Sol
  • Please donate to vet fees to help galgo puppy Marino

    From Sandy Galgoslover

It seems like only yesterday that little Marino, weak and fighting for his life, escaped with a vengeance. No one knew if he would make it—but this brave soul refused to give up. Today, filled with pride, Marino is taking a new step in his young life: his first vet visit.
Today he’s receiving his first vaccinations, a microchip, and his European passport—symbols of a future that was almost stolen from him. Since his rescue, he’s grown into a strong, cheerful puppy weighing 11.20 kg (24 lbs), with eyes full of hope and a heart that finally dares to dream.
