Jane Brian of Pepis Refuge, near Seville, tells the story of this beautiful galgo.
‘A galgero came to the refuge about a month ago asking, can we take a Galgo. At the time we told him we were full, he explained he wanted his Galgo to come here to Pepis. We asked him if he could wait a month, then it may be possible. He agreed then left.
Almost to the day he turned up at 9pm last night, with Zafiro. A beautiful five year old boy. He took Zafiro out of the car without a leash on him, and Zafiro stood next to his side,looking up at him, tail wagging and looking at him with such loyalty. I must admit, the galgero himself looked sad to leave him, but leave him, he did. He told me has had him from a puppy and asked would he get a good home.
I know – another petition. But please sign and share widely. Bombarding the authorities in Spain keeps up the pressure on them and reminds them that the rest of the world will not go away, will not stop criticising them for not taking action against animal cruelty and abandonment. We have to keep protesting in whatever way we can. This is what the petition is about.

From Associacion Protectora Animales Mas Vida– Indar was lying in a ditch, was hit, both of her legs being broken and drag wounds suffered by the asphalt, without food, without water, suffering from the cold … She was there at least two days and no one stopped to help her or cared about the suffering or the pain of this creature.
We can’t imagine the torment that she was going through without being able to move by her own, going through lots of pain, unable to do anything, but laying there resigned to die watching the hours pass by one after another and the cars almost brushing her. We can’t understand how someone can go off leaving someone suffering and not caring about stopping, we are not able to understand what goes through the head of the person that hit her or even look back to see if she was alive or not.

This time Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert are holding a Manifestation on 12th May 2013 for everyone involved in the plight of the galgo, whether it be saving them, healing them, rehoming them, adopting them, starting at 11.30. Alan and Jane thought they were going to retire when they moved to Spain. Instead, like so many other animal loving Brits, they could not turn away from the desperate situation for abandoned dogs and cats. They now have about 70 dogs at Pepis, and the latest arrivals are these 4 puppies, three of them very newly born and another little girl left at their gate yesterday. This means tremendous amount of work around the clock with feeds – those of us with children remember it well!
