  • Galga puppy needs foster/adoption

GALGA2 190Galgos are being taken into the killing stations in their dozens every week, podencos too, although not in such large numbers. So many appeals to save them that I apologise to you all, I cannot keep up. Those of you who have Facebook pages will have seen them on Save the Galgo – I’ve appealed for someone to try and keep track of the numbers. Here’s another appeal.

This young galgo, 15 months old, was going to be hung. She was saved and taken to a vet, but she desperately needs a foster home and an adoption, associations only. Please contact urgently. She is good but obviously frightened by her experiences. CONTACTO: marial@protectoraparraga.org

  • The Galguero and his hounds – the story of of two galgos

Charl Clio 2 250 12 2012Another piece of emotive writing from Charl del Rio of 112carlotagalgos, this time about two new arrivals at the shelter in December.

‘The count down is done and the galgos are free, chasing the chase of the hare who runs free. Whoever said that this was a sport, for a sport is something that two should play, who asked the hare if he wanted to die today?

It’s here that these galgueros walk back empty handed, not all but some who have decided that their galgos just don’t make the grade. Some having traded out, thinking others have beter dogs. A galgo is flesh at the end of the day to these galgueros, not a living creature who has feelings, a concept which only they have as consolation to such cruelty.

  • Galga Jade in Huelva – can you spare 5 euros?

Huelva Jade 250 12 2012Marianne Murphy has sent this plea. ‘The killing station in Huelva has contacted Asociacion Naturalia, and asked them to take Jade. She is a galga of around 3 years. She was hit by a car and has a severe hip fracture. Asociacion Naturalia is loosing their shelter in less than a month, and are not able to take more galgos, even less paying for operations.

There is NO TIME to create an event and make an auction on Facebook. So I am asking you all – if there is any way that you can spare the cost of a a cup of coffee, walk today instead of driving, and spare the cost of that litre of gas, FOR JADE ♥

I will collect all the help I can for her during the next 4 days. Please if you can spare 5€ and deposit it in my PAYPAL: muffin_65@hotmail.com – marked “JADE”,and I will make sure, that help is on the way for her ♥

  • Pemphigus Foliaceous – auto immune disease – has your dog suffered?

My first galga, Karmel, developed pemphigus foliaceous, a genetic disease which breaks down the auto immune system of a dog – or cat – and also in humans. I have just been contacted by a galgo adoptant, whose beautiful 3yr old galga has been diagnosed with pf, and is desperate for any help regarding treatment, as her vet is running out of ideas. Besides the articles I wrote on Galgo News about Karmel and pf, are there any other readers who have had a diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceous in their dogs? If so, please email me band@bbrennan.eu

  • Villarejo, Salvanes – hunters disposed of hounds

Villarejo Well 2 250 12 2012The hunters continue to deny that they kill their dogs when they have no more use for them. I have seen wells in from which live galgos have been rescued…here’s the story of another one rescue alive, but others which were not so lucky. Again, this is an Internet translation, no time to correct the grammar, but you will understand the story!

A live galgo was rescued from this well, along with the remains of other dead dogs, which were put into bags and carried a locator chip that allowed the agents to identify the owner of the dogs through the College of Veterinary Surgeons , who certified the animal rescued and the remains of one that appeared in the bag belonged to same owner.
